Derek Anderson(notes) will start at quarterback in the Arizona Cardinals' final exhibition game. Matt Leinart(notes)? He might be on his way out of Phoenix.

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports the Cardinals are calling and e-mailing teams to inform them that Leinart, now an unhappy backup, is available. Glazer reports several teams have confirmed to him that they have been contacted by the Cardinals. It's not known what Arizona wants in a trade.

Earlier Tuesday, coach Ken Whisenhunt discussed why he moved Leinart behind Anderson on the depth chart. During an appearance on ESPN Radio's Scott Van Pelt Show, Whisenhunt seemed to be questioning Leinart's leadership and intangibles.

"There is a lot that goes with it besides just statistics. It’s more about how you handle the team, how you handle situations. There is a certain quality that you have to have in that position and that is all part of the evaluation process," Whisenhunt said. "And I think, more importantly, is how your team responds to that player and how you handle that role. I’m not talking about Matt. I’m just saying I feel like he has made great progress in that area, but, for whatever reason, we have not performed the way we have needed to perform as an offense."

Glazer said Wednesday on The Dan Patrick Show that several teams have called asking him about Leinart's character. Glazer said he believed he could address that after doing MMA training with Leinart.

Asked if the QB would settle for a backup role, Glazer said he’d rather not and texted, “He’s done enough in this league … he wants to be a starter somewhere.”

Leinart has publicly criticized Whisenhunt's decision, most recently on Monday. He said he wanted an explanation from the coach; the two met afterward.

"We obviously touched base on where everything was," Whisenhunt told reporters Tuesday, "which I've always said I wanted. If players have an issue or a problem to come see me. We had communicated before about where we were and obviously we needed to talk a little bit more, but it was a good talk."

Whisenhunt also denied rumors the team might release Leinart. "That’s not something we have discussed. I can tell you that," Whisenhunt told Van Pelt, adding that the two QBs behind Leinart are rookies. "We have put a lot of time and effort in with Matt in trying to help him improve as a quarterback and fit into what we do well. I would say that would be something that would take a lot of time and thought before we made any kind of decision like that."

The coach did not address a possible trade.

Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin(notes), who played with Leinart in Arizona, said he's not surprised that Leinart didn't secure the starting job.

"That's just because I've been there and witnessed the relationship between both Matt and Coach Whisenhunt," Leinart told 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore. "So I'm actually not surprised."

(this guy was looking horrible and running his mouth like crazy the other day during the game. Kurt Warner was the glue that held this team together imo they need to go where he bags those groceries and beg him to come back!!)

You think he went back to stocking shelves, lmao, imagine that! Seriously though ur right they need to beg Kurt or find someone else who can get that job done.

Do you think its something personal between Lienart and Whisenhunt? I do, i think their is a some off the field shit going on behind the scenes, however he is defiantly playing like shit still and you would think he would have seemlessly filled the QB spot after after learning from one of the Best QBs and Futer hall of famer in Warner, lol,

I def think there is something "behind the scenes" going on because honestly Leinhart's preseason stat's haven't been bad at all. He's been smart efficient. No big plays and stuff but those come with an offense that's efficient. So there has to be some stuff going on.
