Andrei Arlovski Should Not Be Medically Cleared to Fight Again

Strikeforce: Fedor vs Silva. Former UFC champ Andrei Arlovski lost to Sergei Kharitonov in the co-headliner. It was his fourth straight loss, three of them coming via KO.

Dr. Johnny Benjamin says enough is enough. He says Arlovski should never be medically cleared to fight again and elaborates:

Since January 2009, Arlovski has suffered three documented major concussions (to Emelianenko, Brett Rogers and now Sergei Kharitonov). Many other minor concussions went unnoticed, and any fighter is going to take countless routine blows to the head during sparring and training.

Ongoing research suggests that repetitive blows to the head (including those that do not produce concussions or any symptoms at all) are cumulative in nature and can be injurious to the brain. This battered brain syndrome is called chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and is very serious.

A prudent doctor and athletic commission will have a very difficult time ignoring the cumulative brain trauma sustained throughout Arlovski's career and the growing mountain of evidence related to CTE.

Sad as it is to think we've seen the last of Andrei Arlovski in the cage, it's much sadder to contemplate his future if he doesn't listen to this sage advice.

Hang 'em up Andrei. You won more than your share of glory.

I wonder why he even left the ufc. I just looked at his record and last 3 fights in ufc were wins. He is only 32 so I doubt he will stop fighting right now

He's lost what he once had. He should hang it up while he's still got a good name. I'd hate to see him fall off like Shamrock did with his last few fights. Go out with a great record, no sense in trying to do anymore, he's done a lot in the sport.

true, but u know fighters do it as long as they can. Did I win the the lotto, it appears I did but no one has written anything

Seems like once these guys get KO'd a couple of times it just starts happening so easily. Look at Chuck...now all it takes is a short punch to drop him.

True, it seems as though their once tough chin is no longer as tough, but Arlovski never had a chin, he's been KO'd in almost every one of his losses. Which is suprising being how he is a stand up fighter and doesn't have a great chin

After Tim Sylvia knocked him out, you could really tell a difference in his next few fights. He was very tentative and seemed scared to get hit. I was glad to see him snap out of it and have success again, but it does sound like he should be done now.

I hate to see him retire, but it's best to step down while you've still got plenty of respect from the fans. I'd hate to see his name tarnished by getting KO'd by some no names

u guys hear bellator is coming to MTV? doesnt look like they have very many big names, shark fights had bigger names but idk if thats even still around
