I never saw this coming... crazy!! DW is taking over the world... forget Donald Trump! This guy is one of the smartest businessmen!

First it was PRIDE and then the WEC. Now add Strikeforce to the list.

UFC president Dana White today announced in an interview with MMAFighting.com that Zuffa LLC, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has purchased Strikeforce.

Terms of the purchase were not immediately disclosed, but White characterized the transaction as "a good deal."

MMAjunkie.com learned of the deal Saturday morning, though requests for comment to both UFC and Strikeforce officials went unanswered. Officials are expected to announce the deal early next week.

White said under the terms of the purchase, Strikeforce talent will remain on the promotion's roster for the time being, though UFC fighters could potentially make their way into the organization.

"Strikeforce is going to continue to run business as usual," White told MMAFighting.com. "There are contracts in place. These guys are on Showtime. Strikeforce pulls good ratings for Showtime. I think Showtime is happy with them. All those contracts will be honored. These guys are going to remain Strikeforce fighters.

"Could guys from the UFC leave and end up over in Strikeforce? Yeah."

Showtime officials also declined to comment on the transaction when contacted by MMAjunkie.com.

Oh hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That means Nick Diaz is back in the mix at 170! some good heavy weights too!!!

Well it sounds like the fight promotions aren't completely integrating at first, so it may be a while before we see Overeem throwdown with Cain Velasquez and all that, but it's def a possibility as the merger is completed.

yeah im sure it will be a little bit of time, but could possibly see Fedor get beatdown by some UFC fighters since they completely dodged it in the past. I also wanted to see a Nate diaz vs GSP but GSP is most likely going to 185 after this fight, and Jake Shields is Diaz's training partner so I guess that will do. I dont like GSP that much but want him to win just so they do the GSP vs Silva super fight later this year or early next year, that will be amazing. Overeem is a monster guy is a champ in like 3 diffrent organizations right now

Well this throws a wrench into everything... DW *did* say that GSP would have to move up if he wins over Shields, but with the possibility of him going up against Diaz now, I wonder if they would postpone that?

Nah not worth it, as much as I want to see the gsp vs diaz, id love to watch Silva get gsp in the muay thai clinch and knock him out with a knee, that would be priceless. I think Silva can dismantle GSP, assuming gsp isnt strong enough to pancake silva for a win via points

I do think Silva would likely dominate over GSP if/when they do meet at 185... although I would love to see GSP surprise everyone and pull out a win in spectacular fashion... not just by 25 minutes of wrestling. That's wishful thinking though. :)

even though overall the number of mma fans is increasing, i can't say i'm happy about this......i really wanted SF to compete head to head for ratings against the UFC.....i personally feel the UFC isn't putting on good enough matches anymore and too many of the "personalities" are on the tail end of their careers.....SF had my interest because of using ex actors, ex nfl, etc......there is more of a storyline with that.....

i guess i'll not be happy until the old "PRIDE" comes back and they let them juice and do the tourney format like before

Im a huge mma guy and I cant agree with you. The next generation of fighters has arrived and the ufc has them. Jose Aldo, Jon Jones, Ryan Bader, Anthiny Pettis, this is the future. They also have the top guys in any organization. Silva GSP and Aldo are all considered for pound for pound greatest. Strike force never had a chance to stand head to head with the ufc, it is mainly B class fighters, they have a couple A class but not like the ufc does. The ufc tried to be recognized like how the NFL or NBA is, they couldnt do it, so they decided screw it, we will take over on our own terms, go global and they are doing a great job. Anyways thats my opinion on the whole thing

Zuffa is becoming the WWE of MMA. Buying up all the competition. I understand why they are doing this, but I can't say I'm too fond of it. I like having the option to watch SF instead of a bogus UFC card. For instance, at the Arnold this year, I looked forward to seeing another UFC fight, but they decided not to do it this year and who stepped up? SF did, that was great and really earned them some bonus points in my eye and then this shit happens. I'm just not too fond of the UFC crop right now, they've not really been doing any mega fights like I expected on EVERY card. That last PPV was lame, now granted they're going to have some good ones coming up, but if you're buying up all the competition, you should have a great main event in every PPV.

I think they are keeping it on showtime

for now. cant see Dana not bringing strikeforce prices up to UFC in the
future. I like the competition of the two DIFFERENT mma companies.
I think it keep the prices a little lower then if there is only one monopoly
calling the shots.
