Anderson Silva will return to the light heavyweight division after his title defense against Yushin Okami, according to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria.
Nogueira made the claims during his weekly Brazilian column, Jornal Extra. The translation comes via Fighters Only Magazine.
“The mystery about the UFC Rio card that takes place on Aug 27th starts to be unfolded," Nogueira said. "I have information in which my friend and current biggest phenomenon Anderson Silva will make the main fight of the event versus Japan’s Yushin Okami."
“They already fought in 2006 but that bout didn’t have a conventional end because Anderson was disqualified by throwing an illegal hit. This time he steps in as the favorite since he knocked down all the chief opponents at 185 lbs.”
While a direct quote was not given regarding Silva going back up to 205, Fighters Only said that he would move due to lack of competition in the middleweight division.
Whether or not this proves to be true, it is starkly contrasting previous comments made by Silva. Silva has said in the past that he plans on staying at 185 and finishing out his career in the middleweight division.
A move up to 205 may also further hinder plans of a superfight between Silva and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
