Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall(notes) was allegedly stabbed in the stomach by his wife on Friday night and underwent surgery at a Fort Lauderdale hospital, according to multiple sources and reports.

Several South Florida media outlets reported that Marshall’s wife, Michi Nogami-Campbell, was arrested late Friday and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. According to a report in the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s website, Nogami-Campbell claims she was defending herself. She was released on $7,500 bond.

A source said Marshall was driven to Broward General Medical Center and not by ambulance. The source also spoke to a surgeon with knowledge of the case who said Marshall remained in the intensive care unit on Saturday morning.

Marshall’s agent, Kennard McGuire, said that Marshall is expected to “make a full recovery.”

“This is a very difficult time for Brandon and family. … We simply ask that his privacy is respected,” McGuire said via text message.

“We are aware of the reports and our thoughts are with Brandon at this time,” Dolphins senior vice president of media relations Harvey Greene said. “We will look into the matter but because we are not allowed to contact our players, we will refrain from making any further comment.”

Marshall, a two-time Pro Bowler, just completed his fifth season in the NFL and first with the Dolphins after being acquired in trade from Denver in the 2010 offseason.

Marshall has a history of domestic violence with his wife and a former girlfriend. There have been no known incidents in the past two years involving Marshall, but he was once suspended by the league for one game because of violations of the league’s personal conduct policy.
