GSP vs. Diaz Superfight set for October

UFC President Dana White’s tweet Wednesday afternoon was short and sweet – “U wanted it! U GOT IT!!!”

What the fans wanted was a showdown between UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and the STRIKEFORCE welterweight title holder, Nick Diaz. So on October 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, the UFC 137 Superfight becomes a reality.

Unbeaten since 2007, St-Pierre has taken on and beaten all comers, barely losing a round in the process. Since regaining his title from Matt Serra in 2008, he has turned back the challenges of Jon Fitch, BJ Penn, Thiago Alves, Dan Hardy, Josh Koscheck, and Jake Shields. But this fall, he will face off against the man many believe has the style to dethrone him, Shields’ longtime training partner Diaz.

A proud native of Stockton, California, Diaz, like GSP, has not lost since 2007. Along the way, the UFC vet has defeated Frank Shamrock, Scott Smith, Mach Sakurai, KJ Noons, and Paul Daley, and with his world-class striking skills and jiu-jitsu game improving with each fight, he is on track to shock the world on October 29th.

There's definitely some match ups I'm really looking forward to seeing in the next few months....Belfort and Akiyama at 133, Nog and Franklin at 133, Faber and Cruz at 132, Silva and Leben at 132, Tito and Bader at 132 and Condit and Kim at 132...I can't wait for these. Oh yea and then there's Silva and Okami at 134, I don't really care about any of the fights on 131, but 132 will be a good one, 133 has a couple fights, but nothing major

I cant wait to see it but GSP better stop fuckin around and Fight Silva after.... And Dana said the fans wanted so they got it, def wayyyyyy more people would like to see the Silva GSP fight

I don't see how this is a "Superfight". Diaz sucks! Just because he is champ in another promotion doesn't put him on GSP's level. He's not as good as GSP, Shields, Fitch, Koscheck, or half the other welterweights in UFC. I'll sleep through this one and wake up for GSP/Silva.

5 years ago I'd probably have agreed, but I think that Diaz has evolved into a much better striker than he was back then. I don't know that he's quite the rounded fighter as GSP, but I think he will hold his own on their feet. And I don't think GSP will be able to tap Diaz out

whoa, I def have to disagree with you here, he is a good striker and has great JJ we shall see what happens but I dont think GSP will stand with this one

I agree and I don't know that he can really shine on the ground with Diaz either, I think this will either end GSP's reign or he'll win in 5, but it'll be a war

it will be a war but I bert GSP can Pancake Diaz to the mat in a very boring fashion, Diaz can take a hit and give one too

Remember my words Diaz will beat GSP. I love GSP , he is an awsome dude and great ambassodor of the sport, however Diaz seems like he can't be hurt. He can adapt to any style of fighting. He seems to out strike strikers and out wrestle wrestlers. He also has the best jui jitsu guy out there in his corner Cesar Gracie. If GSP wins it will be great but i dont think so.

thats what I like to hear. I always go for the under dog, but now some of my Fav's are champs so I cant continue that always (Jon Jones)

You guys are killing me! You think Diaz has a better chance than BJ Penn, Fitch, or Shields? Nick Diaz has surprised me in the past, as far back as his upset over Robbie Lawler, but I don't think he is one of the welterweight elite by any means.

I'd have to say if he wasnt great friends with Shields he could most likely beat him, and I think he could beat Fitch too, BJ Penn..... I think BJ would win, if he wants to win. GSP pancaked BJ for those wins which pissed me off, and the Edgar wins still confuse me, just bc Edgar is so damn quick, its too bad BJ couldnt get a hold of him

Yeah, the Edgar wins were not great wins. He outpointed him, but never really scored any damage on BJ. I hate fights like that.

I'd not go as far as to say that Diaz is a top welterweight, but he is a great fighter and I think his mentality of wanting to beat people at their game is what has made him become what is. I think that his style of fighting will be what wins him this fight. I know a lot of guys say they're going to go out and do this and that, but this guy is just crazy enough to go after every strong point that GSP has and I think that'll be the difference in the fight, he will not just let GSP lay on him or dance around him like Shields did....I truly believe that if Shields would've taken him down and ATTEMPTED a damn submission he eventually would've caught one, but he never even tried to take GSP down

That makes sense. You are right that he won't be scared to go after GSP. The only fighter as cocky as Nick Diaz is Nate Diaz.
