Plaxico a dead end street to Broadway Joe

New York Jets Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath had some not-so-flattering words for new Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress(notes) on Tuesday.

Namath told ESPNNewYork.com that the wide receiver would be “damn lucky” to make it through the season.

"When I see Burress, certainly in the past, and (ex-Jet Braylon) Edwards, their route running and adjusting, I didn't like it—and I still don't," Namath said. "I'll be surprised if Burress and (quarterback Mark) Sanchez click well and I'll be even more surprised if Burress, after being laid off for two years and change, is going to make it through the season."

The Jets have certainly gotten older at the receiver position this season with Burress at age 34 and Derrick Mason(notes) at 37.

With such a trend toward experience, maybe the Jets should give Don Maynard a call out of retirement. At least Namath wouldn't find fault with his route running.

What route does he need? Just throw it high in the end zone and let him go up and get it. He's 6'5". No corner can jump with him.
