The UFC has suspended one of their own.

Middleweight fighter, Chris Leben, has for the second time in his UFC career failed a drug screening for banned substances. This time it was for undisclosed prescription painkillers oxycodone and oxymorphone.

For his infraction, the fan favorite has to sit on the sidelines yet again for a year. UFC president Dana White commented on the situation in a release on UFC.com

“I like Chris and I want him to do well, but based on his actions, he’s been suspended for one year. If he needs professional help, we are going to be there for him. We want to see him succeed not only in the Octagon, but in his personal life.”

Lebens previous violation was for the steroid Stanozolol.

Since the UFC operates in the United Kingdom without a governing or athletic sanctioning commission they act as their own athletic commission. They take on responsibility for licensing, and testing fighters both pre and post-fight as well as hand down the necessary punishment if any athletes are in violation. In this case, they tested Leben after his UFC 138 loss to Mark Munoz, found the violation and handed down a one-year suspension.

I just read this-- I don't know ... I think a year is too much.... Does anyone think that Dana White thinks these guys don't use AS?

Leben is a fuckin monster.. I love to watch him fight.. He always puts on a good show.. I have to agree a year is to long..

I think he does stuff like this so the hammer doesnt come crashing down on all his guys, and yeah I am willing to bet he (dana) has taken shit too. That sucks though

Right, it's like a college team who suspends themselves. Show that you can handle it from the inside and the governing bodies will let you handle it.

This is unfortunate, but it has to happen at some point just to show they do something. I mean if no one ever failed a test or got suspended, there'd be many people questioning what was going on. And they have to know just like the NFL, MLB, NBA.....that they're athletes use gear. It's crazy to think he'd get suspended a year for a single failed drug test for painkillers of all things. I mean, yea he could be addicted, but then again he could just be going through some pain in training and trying to mask it so his trainers don't know and pull him from the fight. I mean he still needs to get paid and if he's hurt, they'll have to yank him from it. Who knows, I just think it's bullshit

I agree with metal and ox, Its just a scape goat here and there to cover for the rest. if tomorrow they all had to take a mandatory test i gaurentee he would lose well over half his fighters

im sure over half, it sucks bc they lost nate marquardt to this sht, one of my favorite fighters

I like Marquardt and Leben both too. I actually hated Leben on TUF, but I've grown to like him as he's matured

ditto, when he pissed on the guys pillow I wanted to punch him thru the tv

Yea that was fucked up and then how he was crying all the time just pissed me off too. I understand his whole dad situation, but you're a full grown man on national tv.
