Hey guys and gals, just wondering if anybody caught the Gatti/Ward fight this past saturday. Me, I'm a huge boxing fan so I knew this was the fight to watch, forget all the Tyson/Lewis hype(which I will see also lol). Man that was one bad ass fight. From round one till the last bell I was like . Talk about two warriors going at it for twelve rounds straight. Hell they should get paid double for what they went through. It was one of those situations that you wish both could be declared winners, but someone had to lose. I personally thought Gatti squeaked it out, but the judges gave it to Ward who deserved the win also. All in all it was the greatest fight I've seen since Berrera/Morales 1, and it might have been better. It was on HBO, and for those who missed it or don't watch boxing, please catch the rerun. I promise you it'll be worth it.

Unreal...

I think that was one of the best fights I have ever seen if not the best.

I also had Gatti by a nose. It was a tremendous fight. Right up there with the Morales vs. Barrera fight. I have a couple of friends going to their second fight coming up on June 22nd. I was invited to go too, but I am poor:( Actually I have been spending my money on "other" things. lol!

Was a great fight, and the way they spoke after the fight was just as impressive. True spokesman for the sport.

The de la Hoya-Vargas fight will be a war!!! Vargas said "The Golden Boy" wasn't a real Mexican, lol. This is a can't lose fight for both of those guys and serious pride is on the line. Mark my words, this will be the fight of the year.

I gotta disagree with you on that one coachk. De La Hoya has never been in a war, and the way he acts now that his career is coming to an end, I doubt he'll take any chances. However I do think it'll be a good boxing match, but not a war. He wants to get back in the ring with Trinidad, why I don't know, so he'll probably be conservative unless he hurts Vargas. If it was the De La Hoya of old, hell yea this would be the fight to watch, but that guy is long gone lol. Either way it should be a good fight, and I'll be watching that one also. I will say this, if its a war you're looking for catch Berrera/Morales 2. The first fight was 2000's fight of the year, and was incredible. Plus these guys got into a fight at a press conference earlier this year, and I mean punches were actually landed, not that hit and miss shit Tyson and Lewis pulled off. Anyway all this should explode in the ring and make for a good fight just like Gatti/Ward, but with a little more boxing lol.

I have to agree with getswole. Although I am looking forward to the Vargas - DeLahoya fight. I don't think either one of them have the chin (esp. Vargas) to stand up to a war like the 2 other fights mentioned. I still don't know what is going to happen with Delahoya yet. I think he may try to be the Oscar of old, but I still think he would lose again to Mosely or Trinidad. By the way, I would put my money on Berrera on this rematch. In my book he won the first fight.

I agree with you gander on all points. The way I see it is De La Hoya has nothing left to do. Mosley is too quick for him at 147, plus he has to deal with Forrest now, and Trinidad is too big for him at any weight over 147. If he still wants to get in the ring with either one, which will most likely be Tito, I think he loses a decision to Mosley or gets knocked out by Trinidad. I figured thats probably why he took so long to take the fight(there were supposed to fight last Dec.), and why he's talking retirement if he loses. I just don't think he really believes he can beat Vargas. We will see though. Oh and I feel Berrera got shafted in the first fight also. Anyone who follows boxing knows its all politics, and from what I heard then Morales decided it would be his last fight at 122. With him moving up to 126 after he fought Berrera, and if he won, that would've put him in the position to fight Hamed. Since Morales was more popular back then, and everyone wanted to see that fight go down, I think thats why they gave it to him. To bad he hasn't done anything impressive since then cause Berrera's on a roll, and probably will be too much for him.

Yeah, all the politics makes you wonder if they get some of them judges from the Olympic figure skating crowd - lol. I think someday it will have to come down to judges posting their scores after every round. That is the only way I can think of to get the public to respect the sport more. What does everybody (general public) think of when they hear the word boxing? Probably Don King comes to mind, and crooked fights. By the way, did you see any clips of the "princes" last fight against that nobody. lolololol! He is such a joke. He looked terrible. I would like to fight that little fucker!

I guess I'm partial to the de la Hoya/Vargas fight because I grew up in TX and many of my Bro's are Mexican. Vargas has insulted de la Hoya's family, called him a sellout, etc. Theres a lot more to this fight then the fight itself, I think de la Hoya will be in control-but his finishing skills have lacked lately. A lot of Mex pride on theq line...

Lol yea he looked horrible going 12 rounds with that bum. Now if everything goes to plan Hamed and Tapia are supposed to get in the ring later this summer, once again thats supposedly. I know Tapia might not be in his prime, but he still gots the skills to school the "Prince". Man I love watching someone annoying get their ass whooped. My whole family was hyped while Berrera was beatin that ass lol. As far as the politics go, I read in the paper that Sen. John Mcain(I think thats his name) and some of the bigger names in boxing are pushing for congress to pass a law for a U.S. governing body for boxing. If this passes, there would be a single organization to over see everything in boxing, managers, trainers, promoters etc., at least in the states. I hope it passes so all this bullshit about boxing can be fixed. I love boxing, been around it all my life, even my uncle's a trainer for amature and profesional fighters. To bad it has to come to this to clean the sport up, but at least someone's trying.

Hey coachk I know how you feel, I'm a Texas boy too. Been here all my life, plus I'm half mexican, and you are right about Mexican pride. Thing is Vargas is right about him. I mean at one point De La Hoya was pound for pound the best fighter on the planet, but for some reason just didn't seem to care about boxing. When he was an amature, and first turned pro, he was hungry. Always dedicated his fights to his mom who past away. Then it seemed like he got to big for his own good. Started singing, getting involved with different women, just letting everything outside the ring be more important, and in a sport like boxing thats the last thing to do. Shit you don't even hear him talk about his mom anymore. Which it showed when he fought Trinidad and Mosley. People think he was robbed against Tito, but after he expressed the importance of the "Championship Rounds" through out his career. Then he literally runs for those same rounds in their fight, then wonders why he lost. With Mosley he just got out classed and beat. I to believe he has the overall skill and experience to beat Vargas, but he just doesn't seem hungry any more. Vargas may talk a lot of shit, but he is hungry, and wants to be the best pound for pound champion in boxing. Should be a good fight, but may not have to many fire works.

I think Oscar definitely received some bad corner advice in the Trinidad fight, or maybe he thought his style would win over the judges. It doesn't really matter, he controlled the fight and didn't finish. I think its really wide open right now because Mosely and Trinidad have to be carrying some heavy emotional baggage. Mosely got beat by a fighter who I don't think belongs in Oscars or Trinidad's league. I saw the Forrest/Mosely fight and Vernon just shoved him around, bullied him. There is also the ? w Trinidad's age. many claim that he's in mid 30's. Who knows, then theres Hopkins who none of those guys can compete w/ at 160.

Some good points you made there coachk. I too thing it is wide open between 147 and 160. Only thing is Forrest is a good champion, and his fight with Mosley was no fluke. He executed the perfect fight, and it paid off. Honestly I wouldn't mind putting his name up there with the likes of De La Hoya and Trinidad. He is that good, but was never given the chance to prove it. If you really look at it, he has all the tools to compete with anyone. He has good hand speed, puts combinations together, a decent defense, listens to his corner, adjusts in the ring, and as far as I can tell now he's probably one of the best, if not the best power puncher at 147. Not to mention that he's not a natural welterweight, and shouldn't have any problems moving up in the future. As far as everyone else I still believe Trinidad will prevail. At this time in boxing it's quite clear that age isn't a big issue so Tito's real age, if it isn't true that he's 29, shouldn't matter. De La Hoya has gone to far up in weight, and should've stayed at 147. His power has decrease and honestly I doubt he can handle Trinidad's power or pressure at any weight over 147. Vargas has already proved he can't take a good punch, so his chances of being the best now is quite slim. With Hopkins its a different story. He does have the chin to stand up to just about anyone, but he's not a natural boxer. Up until the Trinidad fight he was basically a dirty fighter. All he did was hold, hit, and frustrate his opponents until he wore then down. Then in the late rounds he would take over. Tactics like that wont work with Tito, he's too experienced a fighter for that, and can get dirty at times himself. Plus Hopkins used to take a bit more punishment that way, which also isn't wise to do with Trinidad. The thing that people fail to see is Trinidad wasn't fighting his normal fight. All he wanted to do was knock Hopkins out cause of all those mind games he played. On top of that Trinidad literally followed Hopkins around all night taking everything thrown at him, and it still took the whole fight for him to finally break down. You can bet that the next go around popa Trinidad isn't gonna let him get caught up in all that mess, and will make sure he stays on track. I really dont think he can knock out Hopkins, but he can out box him any day. Everybody under 160, just can't handle the power.
