The St. Louis Rams will hire Brian Schottenheimer as their offensive coordinator, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Schottenheimer, the son of former NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer, had been the New York Jets' offensive coordinator since 2006 before leaving the organization following this season.

In six seasons as the Jets' coordinator, the last three under Rex Ryan, Schottenheimer was a lightning rod for criticism. His ouster was applauded by an angry fan base, which saw the Jets plummet to 29th in total offense and watched as quarterback Mark Sanchez regressed in his third season.

Schottenheimer is the second coordinator to join new coach Jeff Fisher's staff. Gregg Williams, who was New Orleans' defensive coordinator the past three seasons, joined the Rams in the same position.

The Rams hired Fisher last week after finishing 2-14 in 2011, but are still searching for a general manager to replace Billy Devaney, who was just 10-38 in three seasons in charge of the Rams.

A league source told Schefter the Rams will interview Jets vice president of college scouting Joey Clinkscales for their GM vacancy this week.
