I am hoping this forum can be informative for our female athletes. Welcome to all the females to mc. This is a great site with lots of great info. Also very helpful and friendly members, which I have appreciated a lot. Of course I would love for the guys to post here too as I know a lot of you have a lot of knowledge and perhaps have a spouse or gf who is interested in working out and doesn't know where to start, or looking to compete and needs some help. I am happy to help!

My wife plans on starting to come go the gym with me as soon as she is all healed up from having the baby. Of course we all know diet is key in losing weight but as a female what other suggestions would you have for her. Her plans are by no means to compete by she wants to be tone and fit.

I've always found it best to simply plant the seed and let it grow. She's much more likely to stick with it if she moves slowly at her own pace and hears your constant encouragement. That's how it went with my wife and now I can barely keep up with her!! And married or not, when a woman feels good about her body and knows you like it, it is on!! At that point just hold on!

If she needs to lose the baby weight of course diet is key but I would have her start with light circuit training 3 days per week, very minimal rest in between sets following by cardio starting at 20mins per sessions and working up to 30. Of course as she heals up she could train more often and do something other than circuit training. The quick training will keep her heart rate up and help her to burn fat while training in addition to the cardio. The last 8 weeks for me before competition is all supersets (with lower weight) with very minimal rest for the exact same reason, burning fat.

Good luck I hope she comes on here when she feels better and congrats on your baby!
