Oblique Training....Why???

I was talking with my sister today up north and she was going over her training program with me. All sounded fine until she told me she was using the weighted oblique machine. If you haven't figured it out yet about me, I am a big fan of a tiny waist, specially if you are going to compete. The smaller the waist the bigger the shoulders look etc etc, and the bigger the waist the bigger you gotta get the rest of you to make up for it. Anyways so she asked me why do they have these machines? I did not have an answer. I sometimes see women doing weighted oblique exercises or side bends with weights and I just shake my head, women I KNOW do not want a bigger waist EVER. Thoughts?? I just know bodybuilding but perhaps there is a sport that this is a neccessary piece of equipment, I just dont know it.

Got me,lol. I suppose its good for training for other sports, football, and prolly baseball and pitchers more specificly and i guess might help alot with hitting.

But back to ur question, not sure why anyone (bodybuilder) would want to grow there waist, but you can just use it to the point of keeping them nice and tight right? I mean you dont have to go balls to the wall and pack on a thicker waist and think Obliques. Thats my answer and Im sticking to it,lol

Ok, I have to disagree just a little with this. I do high cable oblique crunches and have for years and my abbs haven't gotten bigger at all. In my OP, If you don't go heavy and focus more on high reps and squeezing the shit out them on every rep they are very bennificial. If anything, these have helped my obliques really come in when dieting. Like I have always said though, everyones body reacts to things diff.

Yeah true everybody does. I guess if you don't go heavy you would be ok, and you obviously know what works for you, I see your pic. But you know some people just don't know any better and pile on the weight, hence my sister.

Oh and Presser my middle name is Balls To The Wall:D, it's all I know :)

I couldn't agree more. Especially for me as I have massive obliques. Anything I can do to shrink them so I have more of a taper I'll try.

I used to do weighted side bends all the time. Then I got into bodybuilding and realized I have a wide waist, so I had to stop that.
