Do any of you take Yoga classes?? I have been invited to join a couple of friends, they tell me it's pretty tough. What do you think about it? I need to incorporate something new into my training and this seems like it maybe it.

I have tried it a few times and is definitely is not easy because you have to hold poses for a while. It would be a great change to your workout. I would like to try it more but have not found the time. If I am spending 45 min to an hour in a class I usually go for cardio, but I have enjoyed yoga. It will also build up your stamina, so even though you work with weights you may have trouble holding some of the poses if you work with heavier weights at low reps. It is not easy and it definitely makes you more flexible. Go for it. It is a good change and most people say that they can tell that it tones their muscles.

I most definitely would like to give it a try. I heard the poses are real hard to hold. :) They warned me. Now I just have to figure out a day where I'm free....it's so hard to make time for everything.

This brings up something I've been thinking of lately. I need to increase my flexibility, and I thought about doing something every morning or evening. Is there a decent DVD that demonstrates good stretching techniques out there?

Something like "Stretching for Old Men" or something.

Auriflex,

My girlfriend bought a Yoga for Dummies DVD at Best Buy, it was less than $10. That might be what you want.

Spanishfly: I have tried and LOVE 'Beekrum' -- not sure on the spelling -- Yoga. It's AWESOME! The room is 108 degrees before you even start to train. You are completely... I mean completely soaked when you are finished. I can literately wring my clothes out when finished. It is a GREAT change for cardio. I would definitely try it out!

Let me know what you think!

Hey Girls!!
I actually teach yoga and pilates and my gym and HIGHLY recommend it for everyone! Its a wonderful change to a workout, or even a supplement on those long days! I will say to start with a beginner class if you've never tried it, no matter what shape you are in because it uses muscles in ways they are not use to. And yes, you keep the poses for a long time!! It teaches you how to breath!
Let me know how everything works out!!

That's what I have been told....real real hot in there!! Whoa!!

It's 'bikram'... and it's hot as SH*T. John Bartlett (famous fashion designer) swears by it.
People say it stretches you very well, and so it elongates the body, making you appear more lean. And, even though you are not moving, you sweat like a turkey.

Hi Spanish fly,

I have practised yoga since age 17, I think it goes very well with weight training since it lenghtens your muscles whereas weight training can shorten them & reduce range of motion. I don't do it as much as I used to because of lack of time, but I aim to do a few rounds of the sun prayer after a workout.

There is a video out right now and it is called Yoga for Dummies, it is a really good video and gives the basic yogas moves and is about 45 minutes long. Here is a link to where I purchased it from... http://www.collage-video.com/in-stock-videos/4584.htm, they also have Pilates for Dummies and this is harder to do but is an awesome workout for muscle toning and strengthening which is about 35 minutes. Hope this helps..
