I just read about this in Flex. Has anyone tried this?
Welcome to Joffer Family Ranch in beautiful Southern Oregon where we produce super premium, super lean ground beef. We call it Skinny Beef...a ground beef with less fat, less calories, less cholesterol, and more protein per serving than pretty much any other ground meat that you can find anywhere.

How do we do it? We specially select genetically lean breeds of cattle, we exercise them, feed them grass or grass hay, then have all of the premium, lean steak cuts, such as Top Sirloin and Filet Mignon included in the ground beef as well. The result is Skinny Beef, a delicious ground beef that is good for you too!

The secret to producing Skinny Beef is our specially selected skinny cattle. These cattle are unique in the fact that they are genetically lean breeds that don't get fat. They don't get fed grain, are not implanted with growth hormones, or go to a feedlot like normal, big, fat, beef steers like the one being shown by my son in the photo below. 0ur cattle are small athletic cattle that are used for athletic events such as rodeo, horse shows, team roping, etc., and it just doesn't make sense to feed them grain or give them hormones because they are just plain skinny! These cattle actually exercise, and have super low body fat, lean muscle fibers, and produce amazing, super lean beef that tastes great too. Skinny Beef is all natural, grass fed and grass finished, low in cholesterol, super low in fat, and while the beef may not make the grade for prime beef, it is much better for you! We put all of the premium steak cuts into our premium ground beef, and the final result is an incredibly lean, lower cholesterol, super premium, ground beef.

Normal Beef steers like this one that my son showed in his 4-H days are fed in feedlots to get "finished" or in other words...FAT. No matter if they are raised "natural", or "organic", or even have their fat trimmed to some degree...they produce beef with lots of "marbling" - another word for fat. Now fat can be good, in fact the more fat, the higher the classification such as prime, choice, etc. I'll admit that I love a really good "fat" steak, I love ranching, and the beef industry, etc. BUT, many of us can't eat like that every day...the calories, the cholesterol, the saturated fat is just too much! After all, heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the United States by a wide margin. So what do we do? Well if you don't know about Skinny Beef ground beef, you spend way too much money on organic free range chickens, farm raised fish, turkey burgers, veggie burgers, tuna, egg whites, buffalo, emu, or whatever lean protein source you can find! Most of these protein sources are crazy expensive...as they are in high demand with much lower supplies. Due to this hunt for less fat, the per capita consumption of beef went from 79.2 lbs. per person in 1985 down to 61.1 pounds in 2009. Chicken went up from 52 lbs. to 80 lbs. during the same time period...as people searched for lower fat alternatives and ended up with everything that "tastes like chicken".

So, along comes Skinny Beef premium ground beef. All of the good stuff like quality animal protein, Omega 3 fatty acids, Iron, etc.; but with almost no fat. Our first lab test showed ZERO grams in the standard serving size of 4 ounces. Of course every package of Skinny Beef premium ground beef will vary slightly and we don't claim that all of our beef has no fat as all animal protein has some fat. However, you will see from the dark red color, the fact that you don't get your hands coated in fat when you form a burger, and the lack of fat on the grill or left in the pan that there is very, very little fat in Skinny Beef ground beef. So "Get the Skinny" today, you will be glad you did. Our beef tastes great, cooks awesome, is extremely healthy for you and is priced right too! I'm curious as to the price. Sounds like someone is finally cashing in on the Belgian Blue Bull market. Genetically superior species as far as muscle and leanness.

That's interesting but I'll take my 80/20 grass fed beef and enjoy the health benefits of the the fats in it.

On their site it runs 7.99 per lb, plus shipping so it is pretty pricey. I don't eat any beef precontest but it might be something to try in the offseason. Not sure how it tastes but I'm guessing it's pretty dry, most very low fat beef is in my experience.
