B Vitamin Deficiency

I take a lot of vitamins and I always have. My mom had back surgery a few months back and then developed stress fractures in her tailbone. She was on A LOT of pain medication which is totally not her thing but she was in agonizing pain. Anyways off all the narcotics now and her vision started blurring, her hair was falling out and her tongue was raw and swollen. She didn't tell me this until weeks later as she thought she might be dying and didn't want to worry me, bless her heart. It was a b vitamin deficiency due to her use of narcotics, she was taking them for several months. It is pretty scary to me how pain meds can not only make you addicted but deplete your body in such a way. They also deplete other vitamins but the B vitamins were her main issue. She got some sublingual liquid b vitamins and within an hour her tongue was almost back to normal. I also have to point out that she does not eat very much and not a lot of protein if any, as there are b vitamins in many protein sources. Just thought it was interesting and glad my mom is ok.

My mother came up to help deal with doctors and has since scoured the greater East Texas area for anyone who has ever had, considered, or thought about B12 Deficiency. Apparently, it is quite quite common on my mother's side of the family. I have been taking B12 supplements for almost a week, but had to stop today after having some adverse side effects (it destroys my stomach). I'll be seeing the neurologist for my follow up on Monday and have already arranged a plan of attack. Hopefully, I'll get it figured out in the next week. Thank you again, your articles and story were very helpful.
