I've heard it all now! And no not that a double leg amputee made the Olympics, but rather that people are now bitching that he has an unfair advantage in that his carbon fiber blades he has instead of feet store more energy helping him exhaust less oxygen use during the race.

Leave the guy alone and let him run in the Olympics!

I am sure in the future bionic legs will be an unfair advantage but come on this guy is running on carbon fiber blades instead of fucking feet.

i dont know what to think about this. i just read he didnt meet the qualification time of south africa but for some reason (probably a controversal story)
He was selected alongside Willem de Beer, Ofentse Mogawane and Shaun de Jager for the 4x400 and also will be South Africa's only entry in the men's 400. He missed out by less than a quarter of a second at his final qualifying race at the African championships.
Pistorius won a silver medal at the Africans but was 0.22 seconds off the second Olympic qualifying time he needed under the country's strict criteria. But that didn't matter in the end.
SASCOC said all the athletes including Pistorius were picked on merit.

For me an olympian is physically gifted/genetics, hard working/training/determined, most in my opinion now days are on some kind of performance inhancement anyway. So does this guy have an advantage? Maybe a little but next olympics with better technology and others who are inspired by this guy or say a 6 yr old kid with no legs deciding he wants to be the fastest man in world and in 12 years with technology and his determination i think could be unfair. I like comeback stories and happy for the guy but in near future we need some more rules so lazy guys like me dont go chopping off their legs to get new and improved. Dont they have a show called man vs science?

I don't know the details but I'm all for it. Their carbon fiber not rocket shoes. If he deserves it put him in if not then he's still in the top 1% of the world. That deserves a huge atta fuckin boy!

From a standpoint looking specifically as to what the Olympics truly is, this is bullshit because he's not one of the world's best athletes. But looking at it from the standpoint of a typical human being I don't see a problem with it. I don't think it's anymore of an advantage, but I can see where someone might argue that fact. But they do have similar sporting events for physically handicapped people although it's not on as big of a stage as the Olympics
