GREEN BAY, Wis. -- San Francisco 49ers kicker David Akers bounced a ball off the crossbar and through the uprights from 63 yards just before halftime, tying an NFL record in Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Akers hit a low line drive that caromed off the crossbar and kept going forward instead of bouncing back onto the field. A wide-eyed Akers raised his arms in triumph and let out a yell to celebrate.

The three other kickers to hit 63-yarders were Denver's Jason Elam in 1998, New Orleans' Tom Dempsey in 1970 and Oakland's Sebastian Janikowski in 2011.

Akers' third field goal of the half helped the 49ers take a 16-7 lead over the Packers at halftime.

His response was priceless. I think by the look on his face he thought he had no chance.

LOL, Exaclty!!!!! That really was a great fckn kick though. Aewsome to be able to witness history. 63 yards is a major fckn accomplishment!!!!!!

And yes, the look on his face was great. I was shocked that he had that much kick in him personally, I don't think he has 64 in him though lol. Janikowski on the other hand can probably kick a 70 yarder, that fucker has a huge leg on him

I watched it live too and couldn't believe it! Probably 98 out of 100 that hit the crossbar doesn't bounce through tge uprights!

That's absolutely true, I've not seen many hit the cross bar or the side posts that go in. It's much more likely to bounce the other way for some reason. You'd almost think you have a 50/50 chance, but that's not the case by any means
