i never had shin splints, but i had the same kind of pain in both my forearms,, I couldnt even pick up a jug of water or open a door, let alone lift a wieght, buuut i was determind so i just wrapped my arm up with an ace bandage and put Tiger Balm on it every hour and popped 800mg Ibrophin until the pain finally just disappeared. Then i went into my other forearm, so i just did the same thing,, and now Im fine!!! (knock on wood) :-)

there are a few streaches. When I was in col I played basketball and I got them my soph year. You can kinda kneel with your feet under you with the top of your feet against the ground. If you have bad knees this might not be ok with your knees. You gently sit back making sure your fet are vertical, and kinda sit down onto your heels. I hope you can visualise my shitty description.

PS. All that I could visalise when presser was ripping you was this cowboy with skin tight levis. hahahayeeeeehaaaaaawww!!!

Well I am sorry to say that the only way to get rid of them fast is the get a bucket and fill it with ice and water...then get a magazine and get brave and just stick your legs in them....but if you got time just stay off your feet as much as possible.... you can stretch it too....pull your toes back towards you body...like a calf stretch.

I know where you coming from bro. I get them bad because of all the weight I put on. The shoes you have to wear are not helping either, lol.

Sometimes when I wear my stiletto heels I get them. You just have to rest them up, and not jog so far, or what have you.

...bro i m going thru shin splints right now myself...they come and go and now that it is summer i play ball alot, they are harder to maintain...i try to rest them as much as possible, but stretching is key also...there is a thing you can buy at a sporting goods store that "wraps" around your shin just below the knee that keeps everything tight to the shin so to speak...alot of basketball players wear them for this purpose...good luck bro because i never got them before and havent got rid of them for almost 8-9 months now...:(

I started getting them really bad when I picked up my running a few months ago. I got up to six miles/day and it hurt like hell every time. I have had to lay off for a month now because I ended up with stress fractures on my left shin. Had to stop right when I started this cycle too, but I think the gear is speeding up the healing. I haven't been able to run for 3 weeks now and I think I'll give it another week. I was doing alot of things wrong that led up to getting shin splints. I was:

1) running in tennis shoes instead of running shoes
2) running on concrete surface
3) running on a curved, variable, and sometimes uneven surface (cement walking trail around a big pond at my apartment complex .... lots of chicks there!)
4) Running 7 days/week with no breaks

Now, I have bought a pair of Mizuno top-of-the line running shoes and I plan to start back at 2-3 days/week and work up to no more than 5 days/week.

What I learned is that the shoes make the most difference. I'm 6'4", 230lbs and that's alot of shock on the shins to run on concrete without adequate padding and support like you get from running shoes. Basketball courts are also bad on the shins.

shin splints. actually what is happening when you develop this condition is that your tibialis anterior is seperating from the tibia. Imagine this, snap a rubberband against a table or something, holding it with your two fingers and snapping with the other hand. got that visual? good. this is what is happening to your shins. the tibialis anterior(rubberband) is hitting your tibia(table). the best cure for that would be to wear the proper athletic shoe.

I suffered with the shin splints bad halfway through my last cycle.
voltran gel and whenever you get the opportunity raising your leg resting on a cusion etc. Took a week but that worked nicely for me

Dude, my shin splints never go away, I always have some kind of pain. It doesn't help that I wear boots all the time. Wearing proper shoes helps big time. But what's even worse is that sometimes i get the same problem in my forearms and that really sux!!!

Yea I've had them for about 2 years now on and off. They suck real bad. What I did was put my legs up to my knees in a cold whirlpool then when I got out I would stretch the shit out of them. Then I would get my arches taped. That helped a bit but they always come back.

if you have shin splint and have a game to play beit soft ball, basketball baseball whatever it may be the best way to stretch them is to jog backwards for a while it realy realy works when ur ready to start playing they dont hurt nearly as much, running backwards seems to work them the opposite way stretching them the way they need to be stretched, i forget who told me this, it might have been my chiropracter years and years ago but i couldnt believe how well it worked for me right before playing basket ball and football

SHin splints seem to happen to people whos weight fluctuates alot up and down

I used to get real bad shin splints. I bought some arch supports (they fit inside youir cleats/sneakers) and have not had them since. Shin splints are caused by the arch of your foot stretching the tendon or muscle that runs up the front of your shin. People who have high arches get shin splints.

makes sense to me, since most guys myself included say they get them alot from weight fluctuation as I said, so maybe that weight is putting the stress on the arch of your foot? and I am not sure what you mean by high arches? wouldnt the arches be lower or less to cause any tension on the tendon or muscle that you speak about?
