The Ultimate Fighter - Team Jones vs Team Sonnen

My thoughts so far. Episode 1.

Prelims:
The prelim fights to get in the house were just as uninteresting as usual. It seems they always put the wrong guys against each other. They always have 2 guys who have no business being in the house facing each other and two guys who could both be in the finale facing each other. This is no way to get the best fighters to move on. They seriously need to rethink this. If they started a double elimination format, it would guarantee the best fighters would end up in the house, and a higher caliber of fighter entering the UFC.

Picks:
I was shocked that Uriah Hall was not the first pick! He looked to be the most complete figher during the prelims. And when are these guys gonna realize that reach doesn't always mean advantage. Luke Barnatt might be tall and have a reach, but he looked awkward because of it too. I had him at a 3rd or even 4th pick at best.

Fight pick:
Wtf was Jones thinking picking this fight? Sure, I said reach isn't always an advantage, but Luke is clearly a better fighter than Gilbert. Muscle doesn't always transfer to the fight game. Don't pick the shortest guy to fight the tallest. The only reasons I can see that he would choose this fight to start things out, is 1. He wants to get rid of Gilbert or 2. He wants to make a huge impact with an underdog win.

Episode 2

Team Jones:
What a bunch of whiney, backstabbing little bitches! As soon as Jones made the fight pick they started complaining. And when Gilbert broke down about his family they ran and told Coach Mir. Wtf?! I understand that there's "teams" but quit worrying about everybody else's business and worry about yourself. Most of all, have faith in your coach.

Team Sonnen:
Wow! I was undeniably blown away by Chael's dedication he's shown to his team already. For being the loud, obnoxious "heel" in interviews, he's a true fighter's fighter. It's the first time I've seen the coach get down and do everything he has the fighters do. Like he said, "how will I know what to expect of them I if don't do it myself?". A far cry from the fat, lazy coaching style of Roy Nelson last season.

Gilbert:
He did not look ready and I wonder why he felt the need to be on the show in the first place. He misses his family far too much and he's not using it as motivation but instead is allowing it to cloud his judgement. He looked okay in the fight, but his heart just wasn't in it. The outcome didn't surprise me.

Luke:
Once again, his height and reach made him seem awkward and gangly. If he gets the proper training and works on his speed and balance he could be a threat. But it'll take a LOT of work. I think he would have been a better fit for Jones' team. I could see him throwing spinning elbows and have a similar style to Jones. Only time will tell if Sonnen can help him improve before he meets a proper fighter in the next round and gets destroyed.

Fight pick/preview:
It looks like Hall and Cella will be the best fight in TUF history. According to the clips there is the most violent KO in MMA history! Of course I want Cella to be on the receiving end of it, but the way the previews looked I'm unsure. They had a lot of build up of how Hall is favored to win it all (usually when they make that much fuss, it's a set up for failure). And the teaser clip of the crowd reaction to the KO shows Team Jones cringing but Chael's Sonnen running towards the ring with a worried/horrified look on his face. And then there's the clip of the ambulance and they show a member of Team Sonnen standing next to it. All the things point to Hall getting upset in a BIG way by Cella. I sure as hell hope not...

Episode 3

Team Jones:
Bones did a smart thing by bringing food over to the house to grill and have dinner with his team. He needs to get some sort of a family feel or they'll continue to lose every fight. Once again Bubba and the rest of Team Jones did nothing but whine about the fight picks. I see nobody helping each other or showing support. Such a disappointment.

Team Sonnen:
Once again I was thrilled with Chael's coaching style. Who'd have thought the big mouthed asshole would be an amazingng coach. It shows that all the trash talk he does before a fight is not the real Chael Sonnen. His team is a true team. They are there to help each other and learn from one another.

Cella:
What a douche. He goes on and on about he's not like these other fighters and he doesn't need to be there. If he loses he'll just go back to work for his parents' company. This kid has no drive. He's got a shitload of talent, but no drive. More than likely he'll get the wildcard and be brought back, which would be a shame. Yes, he's got a lot of talent, but no heart. I'd rather see someone whe wants to be there get a second chance.

Hall:
Damn. This guy is the real deal. I figured whoever won this fight would win the contract. He's got a long career ahead of him in the UFC. When I saw him talk to Sonnen and admit he was scared, I knew right then he'd win the fight. For any man to admit to another man that he's scared is a huge step. And if he's willing to admit something like that to his coach, it shows he's willing to do anything to learn and grow as a fighter. I was not surprised at all when he almost broke Cella's skull with that KO kick (althought the show previews made it look like Cerra had it). I would say that Hall has the KO of the year wrapped up. Even Dana White came into the room afterwards and told the guys they might as well just try for submission and fight of the year because the KO was taken!

Pick/ fight preview:
Kevin vs Collin. This was stupid. "King" Kevin's eye is not healed yet. One good sht and he's gonna be opened up. The way Jones was teaching his team ground and pound elbows, there's a good chance that one good elbow from Collin will open him up like a can opener! Kevin is clearly the superior fighter here, but that cut worries me. If Collin can't open up that cut, the. Kevin will walk right through him.

I haven't watched this in years. I used tk watch it religously but now I can't get into it. I do like the coaches on this one so I might try to catch up somehow

I almost didn't watch this season. I don't care for Jones (because of when he refused to fight a replacement fighter and they had to cancel a PPV). And I figured Sonnen was gonna be annoying as hell. I do like his prefight trash talk but thought it would get annoying on the show. Wow, was I surprised when he turned out to be a damn good coach! And Jones is alright too. I still hope Sonnen destroys him even though that will NEVER happen! Lol

yeah I would like to see Jones lose, but i dont see it happening, but it only takes one good shot i guess!

Sonnen has a puncher's chance. If he can get inside and away from Jones' reach he has a chance, but a slim one
