Few questions

So I used to brew a lot like 8 years ago but forgot most of what I knew.

Just made test prop and cyp (seperatly, not combo) from the flex masters recipes in the stickies.

My bottle top filters were going so slow at the end that it literally took me like an hour and had to dump the last bit out and re-heat in order to get it through. My hands are soar from pumping for 2 hours, It was bubbling at the bottom but loosing pressure and Not going through.
Is this because I was using a .22 millipoore instead of a .45? Thinking maybe it was so easy in the past because these filters are different.

Also in the past I have used both prop and cyp (separately) and was able to get it through a slin pin when shooting. This time I was unable to get my prop through a slin pin, it was probably too thick but only got stuck mid way.
Any ideas? Sorry if these are newb questions, I swear I used to be good at this.

Are you using a millipore stericup? What filter membrane is it? What is the recipe you're using. You should be able to get prop and cyp through a slin pin, hell even watson cyp from the pharmacy(ba,bb,cso) will go through a 29g although it will go slowly. If you have some EO in the brew then it should go through no problem. Also what concentrations did you make? Are you using the same powder source? Could be that the powder was not as pure as you're used to and the filter is getting clogged up with binders and fillers.

Thanks for the reply. Well the CYP just went through the skin pin. I will try the prop again Tom.
Yeah I'm using the stericup .22
The powder guy I used years ago is long gone. If it was TE I could tell by eye but not CYP obviously. This new guy has a good rep. I'm thinking it's the filters or I'm doing something wrong.

I used 5% BA 15% BB for prop and 5% BA for CYP. I'm more concerned about the filter issue then the skin pin thing.

In thinking about it more and now knowing you were using a bottle top filter, how sure are you the vacuum pump had a secure fit on the filter body? If you're having to consistently pump the vacuum pump that means you're loosing vacuum pressure somewhere along the line. The easiest place to loose this is in the fittings - the tube is not tight on the pump or the fitting on the filter. If both of these are sealed the only other place to loose vacuum is by displacement in the media bottle - solution coming through the filter and filling the bottle. If you're loosing vacuum and your solution is not coming through the filter I would check the fittings to make sure you're not loosing anything there. Beyond that, how old is your vacuum pump? How do you lubricate it? The pump may be worn down from use meaning the vacuum chamber is not properly sealing and allowing the vacuum to escape. If the fittings are tight try putting some silicone lube in the back end of the pump.

Thanks, I thought it was from displacementand sometimes it was. There were times the pressure was making the oil on the bottom bubble but nothing was coming down and the pressure was then dropping. I am guessing that liquid wouldn't go through and it was easier to relieve the pressure from the next weakest link, which was probably a fitting somewhere. Most of the time the pressure would stay up but towards the end of both filters it wouldn't as it got harder to pull through.
Thanks for the help. If I remember correctly these pumps are only like 20$ at an auto shop.
This pump is old. I will try another one Tom. I think my friend has one or I will just buy a new one. It's like 8 years old and I haven't maintained it all, it's a cheap plastic brake pump

Forgot to mention I used grape seed oil but doubt it matters. I'm kinda out of filters but I only used half of their capacity. Hopefully it will be okay to resume with same filters Tomorrow?, I have done so in the past after keeping them in plastic bags.
So .22 is no problem? Thanks again.

Well the slin pin works fine so now it's just the filter or pump problem. Going to buy another one today also need to find a smaller funnel to fit inside vials, I lost like 20 ml last night and I felt like I lost diamonds lol.

Damn....I've sure felt like that in the past.....Especially if its the last of your powder and gotta wait for more to go thru the process of email order, WU payment, wait,, wait,, Wait.....

If it's bubbling at the bottom then your container has a crack in it and is sucking in air from outside and you've lost your sterile solution. Look at PES filters, stick to small runs, and upgrade your pump,

MonkeyWrench never ceases to amaze me....I know who to come to with the brew questions.....lol
