This is a report I did on Diabetes Type I, II and Type I/II

It has:

Causes
Treatments
Complications

It is very extensive and I apologize in advance because...it is 20 pages long. It is complete with references. This is also an admissions thesis for the college I wish to get a scholarship from.

Oh and not all references are listed because I pulled from my direct knowledge base as well (I.E. my brain). I've been studying this disease for 8 years straight on an academic level equivalent to most medical college learning.

I would post the text here...but somehow I think people would get really...REALLY...upset about that 20 mile long post. So I zipped into a file and if you would like to dl it I attached it.

An excerpt from the thesis is:

Diabetes: Thesis for Admissions said:
The destruction of the beta cells isn’t immediate so the patient can expect the symptoms to start light and work their way to being extreme.

Methods of detection that are distinctly associated with this type of Diabetes Mellitus (and required to distinguish from Type II) are:

Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase Autoantibodies (GADA)
Islet Cell Autoantibodies (ICA)
Insulinoma-Associated Autoantibodies (IA-2)
Zinc Transporter Autoantibodies (ZnT8)
C-Peptide Assay

Diabetes Mellitus Type I is treated by direct synthetic insulin injection. There are many types but the most effective types are:

Insulin Aspart: (Novolog, Humalog) These are your four hour heavy hitting glucose reducers. They are considered “bolus” dosages and cover meals.

Insulin Glargine/Detemir: (Lantus/Levemir) These are your 24 hour dosages. They are basal and lower your glucose levels very slowly and provide a buffer for the highs to not get too high.

For the insulin resistant AND dependent:

Humulin U500: This is a specially concentrated insulin that is an aspart style insulin only works as a basal as well. This is a very powerful insulin only prescribed when all lines of treatment have failed.
Metformin HCl: This is a drug that not only inhibits the glucose metabolism (slows the induction rate of glucose into the blood stream) but offers an effect to insulin sensitivity as well.
