After a badly broken nose and a TKO loss to Carlos Condit, Thiago Alves will try his luck in the lightweight division.

Two grueling rounds with Carlos Condit were the last drop for Thiago Alves in the welterweight division since it was reported on "UFC Tonight" the once welterweight title challenger will indeed drop to the lightweight division.

Still 31 years of age, The Pitbull had a layoff of over two years due to recurring injuries after a frustrating guillotine choke loss to Martin Kampmann in 2012. Alves managed to bounce back in 2014, when he scored a unanimous decision win over Seth Baczynski that awarded both men with the Fight of the Night bonus.

Then, in early 2015, Alves TKO'd prospect Jordan Mein with a come-from-behind kick to the body, that also earned him the "Performance of the Night", bonus. In May, however, a two-round battle with Condit left him with a badly broken nose and the fight had to be stopped, snapping his streak.

Even though he does not have an opponent yet, it was revealed Thiago wishes to make his 155 debut still in 2015.

Alves has had trouble making 170 pounds in the past, missing on two occasions earlier in his career. After his comeback he was noticeably lighter though, so dropping to 155 isn't as crazy as it might have been at one time.

Alves vs Barboza sounds fuckin awesome to me, lots of good fights for him @55 and now his t-rex reach won't hurt him as much lol
