Even just a few mg of RAD140 has anabolic effect

Four years ago we wrote about a study done by the pharmaceuticals company Radius, on new non-steroid compounds with a strong anabolic effect. The most promising was a substance that Radius called RAD140, but at that point we didn't know what the stuff actually was. Now we do. And we also know that RAD140 is even more interesting for chemical athletes than we suspected.

RAD140 [chemical structure shown above] is an interesting doping substance. Doping hunters at the German Sport University Cologne, who develop doping tests for the WADA, are of the same opinion. They published a test that can show up RAD140.

[Rapid Commun Mass Spectrom. 2013 Jun 15;27(11):1173-82.] (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23650030)

We have yet to come across studies on the effects of RAD140 on humans. In Medicinal Chemistry Letters we did find data from animal studies – and they are interesting, to say the least.

The figure below shows what effect oral doses of 10 mg RAD140 per kg bodyweight per day have on the prostate, seminal vesicles [SV] and muscles [LABC] of castrated rats. [Human equivalent: 120-150 mg/day] You also see the effect of an injected daily dose of 1 mg testosterone [TP] per kg bodyweight. [Human equivalent: 100 mg/week]. The experiment lasted 11 days.

RAD140 had a greater anabolic effect than testosterone, but fewer androgenic side effects. When the researchers combined RAD140 and testosterone, RAD140 reinforced the anabolic effects of testosterone, but reduced the androgenic side effects of testosterone on the prostate. That might mean that RAD140 can make testosterone cycles more effective and safer.

The researchers also did experiments on monkeys. The animals were given an oral dose of 0.01, 0.1 and 1 mg RAD140 per kg bodyweight daily for four weeks. The human equivalent of these doses would be about 0.3, 3 and 30 mg RAD140 per day. Even the lowest dose increased the lean body mass - albeit only by 100 g, but even so.

"RAD140 has excellent pharmacokinetics and is a potent anabolic in nonhuman primates as well", the researchers write. "We believe the overall preclinical profile of RAD140 is very good, and the compound has completed preclinical toxicology in both rats and monkeys. We are currently preparing RAD140 for phase I clinical studies in patients suffering from severe weight loss due to cancer cachexia."

sounds very promising. wonder if they already did the clinical studies on cancer patient.not sure when this was originally writen so maybe trials began or r over

Sounds promising to me, too. Interesting about the increase in mass from the lowest dose, a 100g increase--that's a pretty significant increase for the dosage.
