I subscribe to the online news from Web MD and this came in today.

"A workout will set the tone for strong muscles, but sleep is when you really get pumped up. Your body strengthens and repairs tissues during your deepest sleep cycles. You need a full nights rest for optimal muscle mending and growth."

I read a similar article a few years ago in Mus. Dev. Mag. I think these studies that say you need 30 or 40 grams of protein right after a workout for maximum muscles growth are funded by the big supplement companies to mislead you into buying more of their protein products. The supplement industry is huge and they always want to make higher profits.

well i couldnt agree more in the sleep factor! its when we grow and heal, and pretty sure most people know this.

however 30g protein after working out is also a great idea, sure some companies tell you take more than you have to of any product so they sell more, case in point...the creatine load phase was never really needed to that degree!

However protein after a hard draining workout, is always a great idea and optimum, especially protein with carbs to help restore glycogen, spike insulin to help create the shuttle effect of nutrients "protein" directly into the muscle.

So yeah you really would serve yourself well eating protein after a workout
