I've noticed that when I use a .45U Whattman syringe filter with a 21 guage needle and pass the finished compound thru it warm that the filter clogs after filtering 20ml of product(2 10 ml vials) & it is very hard on the fingers. Should I use an 18 gauge needle and a different size(maybe a 22ml Whatman filter) for easier filtering????

Its not the pin, how long between plunges are you taking? are you letting the oil cool down before starting the filtering process?

What is the mg/ml of the oil youre filtering? Higher mg/ml oils can be harder to push through due to thickness

are you suppose to let the oil cool down before starting the filtering process? Im not familiar with the process, and wasnt sure if u were asking because it should be cooled down or not cooled down before filtering the gear

most of my compounds are around the 250mg/ml range(EQ250, Test250,ect) I never try to pass cold oil thru a syringe filtering process just like when you warm the compound before shooting it to make it a smooth easier shot, so it doesn't matter how long between plunges becoz if the oil has cooled I will re-heat it. BTW if the oil is too hot since the filter is made of polyethylene fibers the heat will compromise the filter by stretching the fibers too much making the oil pass thru the filter w/o catching the impurities. so to make my question clearer will the gauge of the pin that goes into the vial mitigate the oil's passage thru the filter and into the vial easier minimizing the discomfort on the fingers of the syringe filter????

no brother the oil should always be warm, whenever pushing oil thru any syringe apparatus its passage thru the syringe is always easier whenever the oil is warm. So if you are using a very low viscosity oil and your mg/ml dosage is high then warming the compound makes it easier especially if shooting it. You will definitely minimize the discomfort from the shot.

Dont let the oil cool before filtering and I normally use 22ga pins with no bottleneck issue and theres really no reason to go smaller than that unless for your personal pinning you use a slightly smaller gauge in which case just try that for filtering so you dont have to think about buying two different gauges. I pin all my HRT and cycle gear with 22ga so its big enough for filtering so i just buy those by the hundreds.
