What is BMR and How Can I Find My BMR Number?

The Number of Calories You Burn Daily While at Rest is Known As Your "BMR" or Basal Metabolic Rate

This is the bare minimum required amount of calories you need to perform your daily duties, brush your teeth, drive to work, walk upstairs to office, walk to car , drive home, this is not your sedentary sitting and sleeping all day numbers which are what most BMR formulas predict for, then they will ask you to determine your Total daily energy expenditure "TDEE" yada yada yada, whereas i like to use the K.I.S.S. Formula with all my other Formulas lol These calories do NOT include extra activity such as working out at the gym, going jogging, running on the treadmill etc...

So knowing your metabolic baseline for your humdrum existence is very useful in establishing how many calories you'll need to burn in order to drop a few percentages of body fat , that is of course when your finally ready to get off your ass and do something about being out of shape, over weight, shy and lonely due to being ugly and fat.

Male & Female B.M.R. Formula Calculation

Basal Metabolic Rate, or BMR Formula

For men, the formula is (6.25 x body weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) - (6.76 x age) + 66.

For women, this formula is (4.35 x body weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.68 x age) + 655.

If anyone is offended by my BLUNT approach to the last article, then tough shit! Cross your hands over your chest, huff and puff at how politically incorrect or insensitive I am being, and then go back to your shitty healthy ways!

Now if anyone is offended by my Formula being out of touch, thats different and I welcome all other Formulas in ascertaining ones BMR.

Thank you

Yeah it will be ""sticky"" worthy soon, and the purpose of this thread was for it to be a sticky thread, but not right away, only after its formula has been debated, alternatives given and the thread gains traction IF theirs any to be gained, then I will sticky post it, however it will likely get lost in the automatic scroll past Sticky thread mentality everyone has if i were to stick it now lol.

Once Basal Metabolic rate has been determined , you may then prognosticate your total daily energy expenditure, or TDEE. This reflects the entire amount of calories, or energy your body burns during a given day when you’re snoozing, ingesting carbs, fats and proteins and digesting them, working out, and exercising.

Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure is also comprised of two other aspects:

1. Thermic Effect of Activity (TEA):

This is the amount of calories burned while exercising. The more intensely your muscles are working — sprinting during intervals or flexing while lifting weights — the more
calories you’ll burn. And if you’ve completed a higher intensity workout, your body will have to work even harder to replenish its oxygen stores, resulting in an afterburn effect known as EPOC.

2. Thermic Effect of Feeding (TEF):

When you digest food and absorb its nutrients, your body uses energy in the form of calories. “It’s only roughly three to five percent of your daily calorie needs,” noting that
proteins and fiber have the highest thermic effect, meaning they require the most amount of calories to digest per calorie consumed.

In Closing, If losing weight is your goal, then a calorie deficit is vital and one should Aspire to consume 90% of Their Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) . No Shit Right! lol

I have always used the formula for RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) not sure if that is different from BMR, but can be found in Arnold's Encyclopedia for bodybuilding.

RMR = lean body mass/ 22.205 x 30.4

Lean body mass is bodyweight minus bodyfat...Would be interested to compare the 2 and see how close they are....
