Tanning and Tetracycline

On my bottle of tetracycline that i got filled today, it said avoid prolonged exposure to natural or artificial sunlight while taking the drug.

Can someone tell me why that is? I planned to shower 2+ times a day, as well as tan 2-3 times a week for 10-12 minutes.

I'll apply moisturizer, so i'm not worried about my skin drying out really.....

why no tanning while taking it?
 
I took (applied) tetracycline by itself before and that stuff peels your skin cus it makes it so dry, and I never tanned... prolly why they say to avoid all that stuff.
 
you will fryyyyyyyy don't even fuck with it ......you will look like a redhead step child left in the desert.......you will feel like your muscles are sun burned......I tann every day I love the fake bake but......hears the story my bro went to a barbq pool party with me he took off his shirt and it was like he was a fuckin feflector he felt prety self concious being pail and we hastled him a little you know ( what are bros for right ) so he put his shirt back on .....the next day in the gym he asked me about thwe tanning salon and all....so I set him up and all.....
he went in an omega bed that is not suposta burn... amonth later he still has sun poisioning .........he pealed 3 times the doc said it was the meds.......If he will let me take a pic I'll post it

Two reasons: #1 is probably not applicable to you if youve taken it before. A small percentage of people develop photosensitivity while on tet. even if you dont have the sensitivity, you may develop it with prolonged exposure to the sun. Its rare and not very acute so most people and docs dont really worry about it.
#2 it dries out your skin and kills some of the natural bacterial flora on your skin (and everywhere else, ie the shits). The drying will of course lead to faster exfoliation of the top layers of your skin, making you more sensitive to burning. Im not sure if ECfatcat's anecdotal case can be word to the wise for everyone, because a shitload of people take the med and go to the beach and tan all the time (my woman for example) and have no such extreme problems. I would take it easy and see what happens with the tanning. Maybe fatcats buddy is an albino who spent the last fifteen years in a cave and sat in the bed with new bulbs...
 
It's true. Tetra increases your photosensitivity. It can also make your eyes more sensitive to brightly light places. I tan all the time on it. You just have to bemore careful.
 
Yep photosensitivity is the word here bro! And when this happens, and it always does in my case, you 'could' get some serious allergy rashes. Last time I went tanning on antibiotics I got covered with red spots from top to toe. And believe me...you won't stop scratching!!! Itchy!!!!

I took it one summer and went fake tanning and to the beach and had no problems. But, everyone is different so just watch out. Like someone said...most people won't have a problem at all.
 
Yes, you can obtain both the topical solution and the tabs overseas. It was just a lot more than getting a prescription.

It was only 6.78 for 60 of the 500 mg caps at walmart.

Online 120 of the 250 mg caps are about 28-45$
