I just received my first Depo-Provera shot last week. Just wondering if any of you ladies have any experience with it. I have been hearing about all these sides, weight gain, hair loss...even more bitchy-ness. What's your take? Has anyone here tried the new patch that you wear weekly???

I do not have experience with Depo, nor the patch but I have experience with gear while taking birthcontrol.....they do NOT mix. Very little knowledge about this out there but the hormones in birthcontrol methods will cause aas to aromatize -- even gear that is NOT supposed to.

Let me know if you like the Depo or not. But by and large the supposed sides are the same as the pill.

I haven't taken any gear in way over a year and don't plan on it either so mixing the two isn't going to be a problem. I really didn't have any sides while taking the pill, except my period shortened to 2 days which was awesome. I hope the same happens with this. But I'll keep you posted on the shot. Oh yeah....it sure did leave a nasty bruise on my ass!

I took the depo shot for 3 years. I thought it was great until if finally stopped. I was not using it with gear so I can't give any advice there, but I would not recommend depo to anyone. I had a gradual decrease in sex drive until it was non-existant. I gained about 5 pounds a year. The only good thing was that I did not have a period for 3 years. However, many of my friends tried it and bleed for 3 months. I would prefer to use some AS for a short break from the period before using depo again. I now use an IUD and love it...no hormones (except the ones I choose to take now)!!! And I lost the weight quickly after stopping the shot.
Good luck!!

I used the depot shots a long time ago before they were approved for birth-control. And I HATED it!.....the first set of 3 months was fine, nomal periods...but then the 2nd set of shots I bleed off and on for 2 1/2 months...it sucked...weight gain and mood swings for me were no diffrent than with the pill. Now I hope your not to scared 2 do your second set of shots...lol.....

the chemical, a 19-nor derivative, used has been likened to the one used for CHEMICAL CASTRATION of men. Take that as you will.

hey girls, this is actually Bitter's girlfriend. I was on depo for three years. In the first three months I gained 30 lbs.! They told me that the side effects would lessen, but they only got worse. I had absolutley no sex drive and now I have endometriosis (which means lots of pain). Its taken me a long time, but I finally lost all the weight, after getting off depo. I would never recomend it to anyone!

Well, it has been about a month and a half and I fucking hate it. I'm not going back for my second shot. I havent gained any weight, but I'm moody as hell, I have been spotting frequently throughout the month and my sex drive has been at an ultimate low. I too don't recommend it at all!! No way. I'm going to just go back on the pill, or maybe the patch.

Hello,
I just got off depo about two weeks ago. I feel great. I gained about 15 lbs on it, lost my sex drive. One good thing for me , my period stopped, I had really bad periods. I am now on a pill called Kariva which my doc has had good results with no weight gain. Who knows though, it may work out for you, good job on using a form of birth control.

That's what I was wondering too? I'm not on anything, but am considering the pill, eventually.

was on depo for over 10 yr now i can not have anymore children they depo was ditroying my thyroid to the point that i gained over 80 lbs the depo causes alot of really bad side effects that they don't list but should.

severe weight gain
Extreme Excitability, Nervousness
Panic Attacks, Paranoia
Shortness of Breath
Great loss of libido
Painful intercourse
Loss of hair
Now (current) unwanted hair on breasts, toes, face
Violent headaches (coming from pain at base of skull)
Extremely sore, stiff, crippled muscles all over body
Blurry vision - trouble getting my eyes to focus on objects
Dizziness Severe neck and shoulder pain
Breast Tenderness & Pains
Heart palpitations - irregular heart beat
Chronic sinus infections
Concentration and memory problems
Acne - not (teenager type acne - large boil/cyst like acne)
Suicidal tendencies
and these are just some of the effect i have had i had no choice but to get a emergy tubial ligation or let the depo destroy it to the point of dying.... when i started taking depo i weighted 105 lbs at the time of my surgery i was 180 lbs today after the surgery i am down to 130 lbs it took almost a year for the depo to get out of my system it's not completely out but in time it will be. i have been treated for severe depression suicide attempts and a nd ADD for the last 16 yrs it was because of the depo shot not that my system is cleaning out my life has been totally different i socialize, i have a sex drive, and i am losing the weight you should read more about depo prevera before deciding to take it look up depo prevera horror stories on line and read all they have to say. this drug should of not made it to the market.

the depo is just a huge shot of progesterone which causes moodswings and weight gain...it is mainly used for those who get painful cramps and pms.
my doctor friends say that its is not the ideal method, the pill is better such as alesse which uses different synthetic hormones that do not cause as much weight gain (progesterone is what causes bloating in a women's natural cycle).
ive been using the IUD for a few yrs now and it is wonderful, however it was a bit painful getting put in and having my body adjust to it (took a yr) the cramping for me for the first yr was pretty nasty considering that i never ever had any PMS prior to the IUD....however my doc says its the safest and most reliable form of birth control (next to sterilization), BUT you need to be consistent on your paps and physicals to get it checked. Plus!! its only like 65 bucks for like 5 yrs of not worrying ....PM me if you like to know more about it
just remember any birthcontrol does thicken your blood and increases your chances of stroke etc...
IMOP try the IUD, there is also a hormonal IUD as well but you have to get that changed once a yr!!!

little late for me to worry about birthcontrol depo is the reason i CAN NOT have kids it put me in to early menopause type state and distroyed my thyroid to the point of no return..... if it wasn't for the depo the DOCTOR prescribed i'd beable to have childeren in the future but that is not the case I CAN NOT HAVE CHILDREN and i had to have a emergency tubal ligation which mean my tubes were tied permenatly un revereable no to mention the other medical problems i will have then rest of my life because of the depo shot.......
