Anybody ever read this guy's book and use his diet plan? My wife did a slightly modified version of it maybe 7 years ago with much success. After getting burnt out on her more recent meal plan which she felt lacked in variety and the resulting couple month long free for all, she's back to this fat burning diet amd again having success.

There's a section of the book specific to bodybuilders which is helpful. I think I'm going to give it a try.

The nasic jist of it is a low carb diet. NOT zero carb; NOT ketosis. He has specific carb loading meals which are timed to take advantage of the resulting insulin spike.... You'll have to read it to get the details, I'm not gonna try to repeat it here.

But, his "bulking phase" has a body fat goal of 9 to 11% with cutting phase ending up at contest ready levels of 5% or so.

He also focuses heavily on energy levels which is important to me. I'm intrigued and am definitely going to give it a try.

I'm also interested because of other dietary issues I've developed in recent years. I have become lactose and gluten intolerant - not celiac disease, but I am EXTREMELY sensitive to gluten. And in spite of being very careful to avoid gluten, I still have frequent gas anf heartburn, particularly diring times of exertion - even with over an hour between eating and working out or playing hockey. So I'm womdering if I am somehow sensitive to carbs in general. Jay memtions gas and bloating as major symptoms of carbs.

So, we'll see what happens with this.

I've been experimenting with this for the last week and a half or so. I haven't finished reading the book, and I'm certainly not following the program to the letter.

Basically, what I've been doing is eating primarily protein (in the form of meat and eggs, primarily); a lot of veggies; and usually a starchy carb at dinner time. I have played around with including oatmeal in the morning, but only half what I usually have for a serving.

What I'm finding so far is that I don't have that "hit the wall" feeling in the mid afternoon like I usually do. Most days (that I'm on day shift), it's like someone pulled my plug outta the wall. By this time in my shift rotation I'm exhausted, but I don't feel like I just can't keep my eyes open. So, contrary to what I've believed up until now, I seem to have more energy and at a steadier rate than when I'm eating starchy carbs.

I'm seeing a change in how I look, too. Not much at this point, but my wife remarked on it last night, so apparently it's noticable.
