PT'ing problem with a client

OK I have a training client I'm kinda stumped with, hes 46 male been lifting about 4 yrs, looks good, very lean 6"0" 180 lbs no doubt an ectomorph. He insists on doing minimal cardio, says a little each wk keeps him strong, eats decent but heres issue

Because of his skinny ectomorphic frame, he trains intensely every other day, has 5 groups he does so about every 12 days he hits each one....his quads are so sore after every WO he is almost immobilized. Only his quads, rest is fine, he squats, leg ext, leg press, hacks etc so he varies it.....I told him he may be sore due to waiting 12 days between legs, too infrequent. So we are going to go with heavy leg day then light one, so every 6 days will alternate, see if that keeps the lactic acid from accumulating

anyone here ever see this problem? I know yr legs have different muscle fibers. As his PT I'm kinda mystified*

What’s the question,?, did we ever see someone immobilized after leg days? Or is he immobilized for many many days after every leg day

I think you have right idea brutha! 12 days is crazy!

Id split quads and hamstrings into two separate days before trying a light and heavy leg day split but I’m curious either way how he responds to more frequency, it sure can’t hurt

I'm sure many of us have walked like we have a corn cob up out butt after leg day, with this guy, he claims to be immobilized for 3-4 days after, which is not totally unusual. But only his quads, appranantly to the point of needing OTC pain meds....and he wants me to figure a way to alleviate it....my first intuition is more frequency as 2 legs every 24 days wont cut it....

But I think he a bit of a wuss, says his rather skinny body cant take 3 days in a row (he normally does EOD) so sticking another leg day in there wont cut it per him...I agree though, he needs to suck it up and at least try it, hes one of these who hates change and anything out of his routine he discounts and claims cant be done

Legs being one of the biggest muscle you would think that you would hit them at least once a week, but then agian if you are immobile for 4 days ( I have had the 5 day sore), but immobile????

I split my legs up quad/calf & hamstring/calf............something odd is going on with his body, do other muscle parts get crazy soure? He may have some deficency in his body like vit D or magnesuim ( very high % of american are deficent in both of these).

when i was younger, if i had taken time off lifting, i'd get very sore. i lifted three days a week, full body workouts. i did it even when i started up again. i'd say he is getting an abundance of lactic acid built up. i agree with yellow snow, he might need vit d and mag as well. ultimately though, i believe he just needs to buck up and work through the pain and it will subside. every 12 days would make me quite sore as well. sometimes we need to change our routines, for whatever reason is necessary. i worked a job where i was on 24, off 48. so i had to adjust my schedule to accommodate working out. tell him to get out of his box and be a little uncomfortable, lol. he'll get use to it.

I think the guys have hit the nail on the head. He needs to do them more frequently and get them use to working. Once every 12 days?? That like 2 times a month.
