The champ led the list of bonus-winners at UFC Fight Island 2, taking home a “Performance of the Night” nod for his first-round submission of Benavidez at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
Figueiredo put Benavidez to sleep after dropping the four-time title challenger on three occasions in the early action of the opening round. It was his second finish of Benavidez after a meeting at UFC Norfolk where he earned a knockout win, but was ineligible to win the title because he failed to make weight.
In other UFC Fight Island 2 bonuses, Ariane Lipski took home a “Performance of the Night” bonus for her brutal submission of Luana Carolina. It was her second consecutive win after a pair of losses marred her first outings.
“Fight of the Night” honors went to an exciting slugfest between Marc Diakiese and Rafael Fiziev, who went toe-to-toe over three rounds. Fiziev emerged as a true standout with an impressive array of standup skills that gave Diakiese all he could handle. In the end, Fiziev took home a unanimous decision .
