Joanne Calderwood | Esther Lin/MMAFighting.com Joanne Calderwood has released a statement after a scary moment following her UFC Vegas 5 submission loss to Jennifer Maia.
UFC president Dana White announced during the event’s post-fight press conference that Calderwood passed out backstage after the fight. The Scottish fighter’s manager Danny Rubenstein confirmed to MMA Fighting that she was transported to a local hospital and she was “doing okay.”
On Sunday morning, Calderwood took to Instagram to release a statement while in her hospital bed.
“Well that was a rough night at the office,” Calderwood said. “Congratulations to Jennifer Maia. I’m so grateful for my family, friends and fans that are here to help pick me back up in this crazy life we share. It’s a fight. Every day, we all fight, but it’s not every day it goes our way.”
Rubenstein revealed that Calderwood had fainted while she was sitting down after the fight. Her head coach, and fiancé John Wood was able to catch her before laying Calderwood down and putting her on a stretcher.
Calderwood’s manager later revealed in a text message to MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin that she had been released from the hospital and she’s currently resting and recovering at home in Las Vegas.
