MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck confirmed that Anderson is now part of the Bellator roster following an initial report by ESPN.
Anderson (13-5) has been in the thick of the UFC light heavyweight title picture for the past few years. “Overtime” won season 19 of The Ultimate Fighter, then experienced mix results before rattling off four straight wins from April 2018 to November 2019 capped off by a first-round TKO of Johnny Walker. He was defeated in his most recent outing by Jan Blachowicz.
As of this writing, Anderson was No. 4 in the UFC’s official contenders’ rankings.
According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Anderson still had fights remaining on his UFC contract, but requested a release, which was granted.
Anderson joins a Bellator light heavyweight division that currently features fellow former UFC standout Ryan Bader as its champion. Bader is currently set to defend his title against top contender Vadim Nemkov at Bellator 244 on Aug. 21.
No official announcement has been made regarding Anderson’s Bellator signing or when he might debut for the promotion.
