Default Championship winning bikini bodybuilder to launch Denbigh fitness studio

Never too late to be healthy and fit!

AN INSPIRATIONAL woman who took up fitness as a means of achieving a healthy weight has opened her own fitness studio.

Sonia Roberts, 37, has taken over the Old Church Institute in Denbigh and transformed it into the Beach Body Studio. It is a purpose-designed personal training and fitness studio which will be launched this evening.

The mother-of-two said: “I battled terribly with my own weight in the past. I used to be obese, and I know only too well how difficult it can be to lose weight safely and maintain it.

“I did lose quite a lot of weight at first but took it to the extreme and ended up with an eating disorder.”

It was only when Sonia discovered the benefits of fitness that she began to recover from her eating problems.

“One day I was dragged to the gym by my friends,” she added.

“They only had to come with me twice and that was it, I was addicted.

“I went to the gym twice a day, five days a week. It was suggested to me to qualify as a gym instructor, so I did.

“That was when I started to address my eating issues properly and I was diagnosed as body dysmorphic.

“I knew that the way I’d been eating was wrong but a lifecoach changed everything for me.

“Exercise is really enjoyable for me but it was much harder to overcome my eating issues.

“I stared weight training seriously in 2013, and loved it so much I started bodybuilding competitions and it has honestly completely transformed my life.”

Sonia, who is also a boxercise specialist and martial artist, has since become a champion ‘bikini bodybuilder’ and wants to help others get fit.

She is encouraging anyone who is intimidated by gyms or otherwise reluctant to begin their fitness journey to contact the gym for a chat.

She added: “I know as well as anyone what it can be like.

    “I was terrified of gyms.

“I was overweight and totally unfit, and thought that people would judge me, but it was never the case.

“There really is nothing to be afraid of. Most people feel vulnerable at first but you soon realise that everyone is focused on themselves rather than judging others.

"Even now, like anyone, I have body hang-ups.

“I have days where I don’t eat so well. I am generally good but I don’t obsess over every morsel I eat.

“I’m finally where I wanted to be and can help others to achieve their goals.”
