    Default Keto Diet and the Truth.

    Is a keto diet better for fat loss than
    other diets?

    One of the reasons why ketogenic diet a diet that usually restricts carbohydrates to less than 50 g per day - is supposed to be better for fat loss is because a higher level of fat burning is observed during ketogenic diet.

    But fat oxidation does not equal body fat loss. Your body can be burning tons of fat all day, but if you're still eating more fat than you're burning, you may still get fat.

    For example, in a study by Hall et al. (2015) the keto diet had a higher fat burning rate, but the high carb diet led to more fat loss.

    In another highly-controlled study by Hall et al. (2016) the subjects in both the keto and high carb group consumed exactly the same amount of calories. Fat loss was the same in both groups, with a trend in acute measurements for fat loss to even slow down during
    keto adaptation
    .
    While some other research points to greater fat loss during ketogenic dieting, in the end the literature as a whole suggests ketogenic and non-ketogenic diets are equally effective for fat loss.

    Conclusion: A ketogenic diet is not inherently better for fat loss.

    Why keto diet works well for some people

    1. Ketogenic diet may suppress appetite more (at least for certain individuals) than a higher carbohydrate diet. As such, a ketogenic diet may be better for some people because they therefore can eat less more easily.

    2. Ketogenic diets restrict food choices. This automatically excludes most of the junk foods (as they usually contains carbs) and foods people are likely to overeat on. Food choice restriction can not only lead to eating less, which is the major point of a diet, but also reduce the chance of overeating by eliminating the food that is tempting for most people.

    I am a big keto fan, but that being said there are a lot of different version of a 'keto' diet ( the statement above that talks about junk food on a keto diet is wrong, with the new found popularity, you can find all kind of junk food keto).

    I don't like it when trying to add muscle, but for maintenance or dieting I feel it is the superior eating plan. I like how it makes me feel mentally sharper, but it is difficult at time when you are active ( gym, cardio). There are some ways of getting around the energy issue.

    I have been doing this diet on and off since 1999. My body likes it more and more as I get older.

    There is Carnavoir diet, Atkins, ketogenic, keto..
    Blah blah blah......
    There is a science behind it sure, but there is rule of burning more than we put in!!
    The trick I find works is putting in more if right foods but metabolism gotta be on high and body gotta be doing enough high intensity output to be most effient!!! This is an adaption that happens and when it does what we eat may bother out lipids etc but body will not put on fat. And if we keep environment right we will be a food fueled fat burning machine. Now this is a level that has to be achieved over time.
    I cut carbs and junk and eat more lean meats. I use good carbs and only cut them after 3pm for most part. I do this when cutting or burning fat holding muscle etc....

    I love intermittent fasting for cutting/maintain . For me it's easy and works well. And the cutting carbs after 3:00 pm is great for obvious reasons and for the tren. You tough me that about a year ago I find it really helps with the night sweats!

    True Keto which is 70% fat, 30% protein will make you lose muscle. This is from firsthand experience crash dieting for a show years ago. Zero carbs with an increased protein will assist in fat loss. BodyOpus by Dan Duchaine spells it out. With that being said I’ve also achieved low bodyfat levels with 50-120 grams of carbs per day so..

    Plus I always include tren! so low carbs and high fat would not be optimal with the Keto.

    Not sure if I agree with you on this. I find that I don't loose any muscle on a pure keto diet as long as I don't cut calories too low; ketones are known to be very muscle sparing. Then again I can only speak for myself.

    I do agree with your assessment that you typically loose muscle on any crash diet ( low, low calories); however some of the latest research shows that a keto diet may be the best at preserving lean body mass when doing a crash diet.

    BTW there is no more extreme crash diet than water only fasting; I typically do a 7 day fast ( water only ) once a year and in addtional 2 or 3 , 3-5 day fast every year. I know that this fly's in the face of everything we have learned on our body building crusade. As I get older I am getting more and more interested in a healthy lifestyle, and water fasts are showing great benefits on over all health.
