We are currently trying to recruit adult men and women who have used anabolic steroids or other performance enhancing drugs in the past year to complete a couple of assessments. We're paying participants 100$ for their time and they're participation is completely confidential. After participating, there is no way to link any identifying information back to the research data. There is, unfortunately, a lot of stigma associated with steroids and bodybuilding and not much research supporting these negative stereotypes. Are experience thus far is that people from all walks of life and of all ages are engaged in this type of drug use, and it is not something just for pro athletes. We find that many are sophisticated in their use and are connected to strong support resources and manage their use without much trouble. Unfortunately, recruiting directly from the street as we have been we get a number of unsophisticated users who are not terribly knowledgeable and engage in practices that few would endorse. We're hoping to get a better balance by reaching out directly to the community through sites like this in hopes of getting a more balanced and accurate sampling of what typical user experiences are. Our research team remains agnostic on the political and moral issues raised by this topic, and our only aim is to be intellectually honest in the research we conduct. Our study is being conducted at Rutgers University New Brunswick in New Jersey as well as Mt Sinai School of Medicine in Manhattan.
