Default Dekel Nesbitt shines at 2016 NPC Southern States Championship

Lots of hard work pays off!

Bodybuilding and figure competitor Dekel ‘Bowflex Barbie’ Nesbitt had been putting in an immense amount of work this season and it served well for her this past July 8 - 9.

The ‘Bowflex Barbie’ traveled to the 2016 NPC Southern States Championship, held at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and came away with two, second place finishes and one, fourth place finish.

After putting on a display for the panel of judges that warranted a lot of crowd involvement and reactions, Nesbitt went on to place second overall in the Novice Figure, second place in the Open C Class Figure and fourth overall in the Women’s Physique category.

Coming off her previous showing one of the premiere bodybuilding expos, the Arnold Classic back in March, Nesbitt noted that she wanted to take a better package with her to show at the Southern States.

Nesbitt finished 14 overall in the Women’s Physique Amateur category at the Arnolds.

“I set a goal to take an even better package to the stage,” she said, “than I did in March in Ohio and so, I kept that in mind as I trained and it helped motivate me to continue to train hard.”

This was Dekel’s second time on stage at the Southern States competition. After a year’s worth of time and dedication, Nesbitt said, she felt a lot more comfortable this time around during her display.

“I think overall, since last year, I came in a lot fuller and a lot more conditioned. My posing was also a lot better and I felt more confident and comfortable on stage.”

Now Nesbitt’s sights are on the upcoming Bahamas Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation’s Annual Northern Bahamas Bodybuilding and Fitness show on July 23 at the Regency Theatre. With so little time left to prepare, Nesbitt doesn’t appear too nervous headed into the competition.

“The very short time between the shows leave little room for improvements, but I just want to get my body at least back to what it was for Southern States and I’m confident I will do well.”

With a firm support system behind her, Nesbitt was touched by the overwhelming support she’s been getting.

“I’ve been blessed to have the support of my family and friends, and the guidance of my coach Caudel McNab. I’ve also had a lot of encouragement via social media as well. Sponsors like the Grand Bahama Port Authority, FOCOL, Nesbitt Rentals and Fitness Connection have also made preparation for competing a lot less stressful and allowed me to focus on daily improvements.”

The Northern Bahamas Show begins at 7:00 p.m. and will serve as a pre-qualifier for The Bahamas Nationals set for August 27 in New Providence.

Nesbitt and a score of other competitors will take the stage, aiming for a spot on the Nationals’ stage.
