Money or Muscles?

Money or muscles, what is more important to you?

Of course we spend money to feed our muscles but what about the time and how it affects your paycheck for those of u who make more the harder u work or 100% commission bro's.

If u stopped eating all the time and u could make more calls or whatever it is that pays the bills why dont you?
Work before gym? or Gym before work? What has the priority? How much more could u earn if u stopped eating and training like a horse and spent more time working. What is the true opportunity cost of this lifestyle for you? (These are mostly questions for the self employed)

Just thought I'd throw out something, lets hear peoples thoughts.

If I had more money, I'd probably just spend it on protein, food and gear. So I guess that answers your question.

What the hell are you gonna do with a pile of money if you look and feel like shit? Money can't ever make you feel as good as 275lbs can.

i would simply just eat, buy gear, protein, well if i have that much money, but in order to get all that i have to work, so i say work for me it's important because it gives me the money to buy the shit i need for my body...lol i hope that made sense, if it didn't oh well...

Much more to life than money. It has become cliche to say that if you don't have your health, you don't have anything. However, it is true.

The lifestyle has value and the results have enormous value.

In addition, bodybuilding is recreation for me -- like meditation or praying to some other people. Heck, you could ask what is more important about many topics, religion or work, sex or work, women or work, family or work, etc.

My philosophy is work to live don't live to work.

There are kids sick with cancer laying in hospital beds all over the world as we speak. There are sisters, mothers and wives with terminal illnesses who are on their death beds at this very moment.

You go ask any one of them right now.

Would you like $1,000,000,000,000? Or would you like to walk out of here on your own two feet in good health?

Money means shit if you aren't healthy.

Leading causes of deaths right now:

Cancer (Smoking)
Heart Attack (Overweight, Stress - Working To Much)
Stroke (Overweight)

Alcohol, Cigarettes, Beer all contribute to poor healthy and being overweight. You go to any college or university campus and see how many kids are drinking alcohol compared to how many are not. This is a huge problem in society and everyone thinks it's ok to drink. No one cares about their health 20, 30 or 40 years down the road. People forget health & fitness is a lifestyle, it is NOT some diet you go on for 2 - 6 months to lose a little weight for your up coming holiday. It's a life and death decision, and 90% of the people out there are choosing death without thinking about it.
When you retire, do you want to live and enjoy everything you have built for 5 - 10 years? Or do you want to enjoy your house, backyard and grandchildren for 20 - 30 years?

Working Lots = Stress = Overweight = Heart Attack
Working Lots=Tired @ Home = Don't Go To The Gym = Overweight = Heart Attack

People don't realize the negative effects over time of stress. Working lots and added stress can EASILY take 10 years off your life.

Do I want more money? Do I want to work more? Fuck no.

Not just that, but what about not just making a living, but making a life? What about taking your son to soccer? What about taking your daughter to her basketball games? What about mountain biking, taking hikes and enjoying the sunshine & the fresh air? What about taking days off to just sit outside on your deck or do some gardening?

Tell you what, my sister is dating a guy who works 60 - 70 hours a week and makes $300,000 a year in business/finance. He never has fun. Never has time to go out and enjoy the money. He's stressed out non stop. He was recently in the hospital because his stress levels were too high and he got an ulcer. He's not a happy guy. He doesn't have any time for himself. Oh, he's only 26.

Just remember this bro'

I don't think anyone ever went to their deathbed wishing they spent more time in the office.

If you think money is more important than living, being healthy and enjoying life. Go right ahead and work yourself into the ground bro' It's your choice to make.

Money can buy a lot of things, but health, fitness and happiness are not on that list. Those things are free.

Yea, that about sums up what I said :)

I just feel strongly about this issue and I get really mad because my parents are so blind to the fact that they are going to be crippled and die of heart attacks before they get to see their grandkids grow up.

Zylo, wow, good post. But check your blood pressure bro:)

I agree with you 100%....money means shit. My father-in-law retired after 33 years of being a homicide investigator in Pheonix.
High stress job to say the least, six months after retiring he dies.
Hhhmm......nope not worth it.

Here is an Article that a friend sent to me that I really enjoy. It kind of sums up how life has changed and how i feel about things. Zylo and I really enjoy the outdoors. We enjoy having fun and dont really care about materialistic things. I think sometimes people with the most money are the most unhappy people. They live behind what they buy and don't appreciate the small things in life. I did a placement on a floor at the hospital for sick children working on kids with a terminal illness called Cystic Fibrosis. I guarantee that these kids and parents don't give a shit about money or what they have. This placement taught me to live life to the fullest every single day and to appreciate how lucky I am. They appreciate the small things and each day that they get. I think more people should live this way.
The paradox of our time in history is that we have
taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too
recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life.
We've added years to life not life to years. We've
been all the way to the moon and back, but have
trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.
We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've
done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.
We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We
write more, but learn less. We plan more, but
accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to
wait. We build more computers to hold more
information, to produce more copies than ever, but
we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow
digestion, big men and small character, steep
profits and shallow relationships. These are the
days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier
houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick
trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one
night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do
everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and
nothing in the stockroom.AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we
take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

I was once one of those all work and no play people. It was a challenge to me to see how much I could learn about the construction industry and I enjoyed the hell out of my job, therefore I worked tons of hours.

It did not dawn on me what I was missing until one day I had to pick my daughter up from school, because she was sick. When I got to the front office to pick her up, they asked me who her homeroom teacher was, and I did not know. It was a slap in the face to me and I woke up.

Now, I work from home, make my own hours, and I am able to make all the dentist appointments, dance classes, volleyball tryouts, or whatever the interst of the week is. Of course money is tighter and there are things that I wish I could have, however, I am very happy with my life now for the first time in 15 years.

It does not matter if you make 30,000 per year or 30,000 per month, there are always going to be things you cannot afford, and if you make your life about persuing those things you will never be happy.

i love going to your dance classes...you look so cute in that pink leatard and glitter shoes...

Good comments by everyone. Fitness is very important, and of course if u arent healthy you cant enjoy life like a healthy person.(In '99 I was laid up for 5 months, with 2/3 amputated arm, 4 broken ribs, punctured collapsed lung, lacerated liver, broken finger, broken scapula, shattered ankle, all at once) Preachin to the choir about health over wealth. lol

I was pondering more the idea of someone who is not a full on dedicated body builder but still goes to the gym regularly for health and wellness, but devotes the extra time u save doing that to work and thus having a more luxurious life. Should have titled it Luxury or muscles.

Also to consider is the possibility of retirement, the more u make the sooner u can(Correction: the more u save the sooner u can). Imagine the value of being a healthy 45y/o retired because u have enough money to live well off the interest. Each day u can go the gym whenever u want. Eat at whatever restaurants u want, drive your corvette and enjoy your possessions. Isnt that planning for the future? Are any of u in the fnance biz where u could run the numbers based on what u spend on juice and supps and compared that to investing that money each month and adding to it? Might surprise u. I bet most of us spend over $100 extra a month at least. Which granted isnt much, but Over 30 years with interest it is.

Sorry Zylo I just dont see it as totally black and white about being miserable with money, u can have both, but if money is your master than u will be stressed and unfulfilled. And to be honest there are miserable people in every social class from the poorest to the richest. And I really think the poorer people in general are the bigger group of complainers and unhappy people, maybe not on this board lol. I have dealt with many poor people and many rich people in my field. Poorer people in general dont understand responsibility for their decisions and the consequences.
I dont aggree with money not meaning shit either...one major thing people overlook in their selfishness is the ability to help other people which I believe is much more beneficial to your happiness and enjoyment of your money opposed to spending it on yourself which is a never ending pursuit of stuff that leaves you never satisfied. You should enjoy the money you make but part of that enjoyment should include helping people who are not as well off. Money is no source of happiness at all, but it does smooth over obstacles whether for you or someone in need.

the phrase you are referring to comes from the bible, and it actually reads the love of money is the root of all evil.

Important difference :)

and i always thought with modern technology and more money i could quit going to the gym, buying supplements etc. and just by some of those new muscle implants....awe hell, i'de still waste money on all the other stuff just to keep the ecopnopmy right. There is a clever balance of money and everything else...it goes along with the proverb mentioned before...dont make money your life or it will destroy you.

I spend A LOT of money on food to keep my muscles and my size. sometimes I would rather not spend all the money but you got to do what you got to do :)

zylo, you should be a proffessor in my program, this is all we talk about. we are promoting a "wellness" attitude to life. just think of how much money we would save on taxes if we had a healthier society. health care would be more geared towards prevention than treatment, less people would get sick and die because of bad health. this issue makes me so mad because my father killed himself with a bad lifestyle, and i am dedicating my life to changing our societies views on diet and exercise. Good Post Zylo, really stirs up peoples emotions.
