The difference between a weightlifter and a bodybuilder

This morning when I came into work, the security guy at the front desk stopped me and asked me if I was a weightlifter or bodybuilder. I told him I was a bodybuilder getting ready for shows(SPC -update forthcoming). He said it was obvious that I am in great shape but then he asked about diet(was general about that) and was it difficult to get ready for a show. I also told him that being a bodybuilder always means that it is always a work in progress. Those that compete know that we can't hold contest shape forever(I would love to) and it takes a toll on your body(especially as you get older). Anyway, the original jist is this - do you ever get asked are you one or the other, and if so what do you tell people (again there is a difference and the general public doesn't really know).

I've never been asked if I'm a bodybuilder but I always get questioned and asked for advice. People just ask the usual diet, workout, fitness, cardio questions.

It's like I told a small guy I knew a few years ago...
"If you have to tell people you're a bodybuilder, you probably aren't."
He worked out on and off and wasn't in very good shape but yet still felt compelled to tell people he was a bodybuilder... :)

LOL- plus I don't come across as being a friendly person either :)
I have done the bodyguard thing here a few times. I don't really like standing around doing anything...

i get insulted when people ask me if im a powerlifter
they couldnt even imagine the time and money that goes into bodybuilding

MMX keep in touch let me know whats going on

One of my clients introduced me to his wife as their "bodybuilder designer." I had to chuckle at that one.

that's awesome Saudades.

we just finished working on a video project that we shot for a client that has a retired bodybuilder in it, the guy won local stuff back in the 70's and 80's. My copywriter was describing the guy as "big" to a woman in the office and she looked at me and said, "big like you?" I said no this guy is much bigger than me. she pointed at my arms and said I don't know how anyone could be much bigger than that. Made me smile for the rest of the day.

I work in public and private security and when I am in public I get guys that walk up to me and say "WOW man to do you work out?" and the big one I get is classic " I used to look like you then I hurt my shoulder"..

You used to be 225lbs at 5ft 6in and 10%body fat and now you enjoy being 5ft 11in at 155lbs at 21% bodyfat?

I'm just a compact guy who looks like a big bald bulldog..lmao..
