Help me look for a fun truck

I know there are some members and guests in here that know all trucks and off road stuff so please share. I'm not looking for anything too special other than it has to be diesel. I'd like an older model that holds up well. An SUV or truck. I'd also like something that has a good aftermarket. I want something that I can go hunting and maybe camping trips. Age and mileage don't really matter as I plan to modify most of it. I'm looking for a project type of thing.
What kind of trucks / SUV's should I be looking for? I know diesels are expensive, but I've heard some can run on used motor oil?

I would get a dodge extended cab with cummings turbo diesel, engine can get 500k easy, best diesel truck engine that is made hands down

Any recommendation on year? How good is the aftermarket for them? I'd like to start with something inexpensive since I plan on modifying most of it. I'm wanting to do neoprene seats and probably take out the whole interior to coat it in rhino liner stuff. Where would you recommend starting to research them?

I am a Duramax fan had 3 now. i have and 2008 that is a great truck. but if you are going to get a used one try to find a 2001. my 01 got 20mpg in town and 28 high way. my 2008 only gets 19.5 mpg HW. if you have any questons ask i have had my auto repair shop 25 years you can ask about anything automotive.

I'm not a big diesel fan, but if I was forced to pick a diesel engine I'd also go with a cummins turbo diesel. I personally am a ford guy, but as far as diesels go that'd probably be your best bet

Yeah ..no diesels in Florida Dude.. Unless you wana run bio diesel from buffalos taquito truck so when you drive down the road with Silk in her vette behind you as she is thinking you are cooking in the truck messin with the diet ...get back into the Cad escalade 4 dr and roll in style like you like or deserve.

Lol!! I'm no baller! I'm wanting something that I can get some bigger tires on and have a nice matte black paint job, bull bar, and all rhino lined. Those diesels are big money, but they can run on anything, run forever, and make massive power.

I had a 95 F150 with the inline 6 300 engine and that thing was a beast. That's by far the best engine Ford has ever put into a truck. I loved the body on the older Fords (92-96). I had captain seats up front, 6" suspension and 6" body lift, dual exhaust, 33" mud tires, black with limo tint, black brush guard on the front with matching black nerf bars. I thought about putting twin stacks in the back, but ended up selling it before I went any further

As badass as the Raptors are, they are expensive. I'd love to have one, but I would have a hard time paying that much for a truck when I can buy a cheaper one and do as many or more mods for less money

Lmao.. I had the same but it was 2wd.. I slammed the thing to the ground and it was matte black .. That's what the bus hit in my accident . Lol. Twin stacks !!! Nfw!! Lol.. I guess your double wide had a 24in lift kit too? Please don't say it was camo green or desert storm tan?

DUDE .. found it!! Its a fiat 500, w/ flipped 1 ton leaf springs over axle and 41 in super swampers than runs on bio diesel! .. Only has one seat so get one for silk ..

The older models without all the new emission equipment run on used tranny fluid. Roll up to your local tranny shop, and you can pick up used tranny oil by the drum. Run it through an oil filter before you put it in the tank though. Some people even mix tranny oil with their diesel fuel.

How much older? I'm really liking the 2001 Duramax and found some good deals. I'm likely going to have to wait a bit since I can't stand the idea of parting with one of the Vettes and were buying land and a cabin in Blue Ridge
