Thread: My ab challenge!!

My ab challenge!!
I have a love-hate relationship with abs. I love the look of defined abs (who doesn't?!), but HATE training them! Of all the muscle groups, this is the one I will talk myself out of training probably 90% of the time. When I'm at my "happy weight" (a lean 160'ish), I tell myself "eh, they're good enough" and that's the end of that. Well, now that I'm trying to lose all the weight I've gained from the last year & a half (my MC's IGF & LGD log), I figured this would be the perfect time to start training them, (and yes, I'm cleaning up my diet and adding cardio), HOWEVER, I need something to hold me accountable! That's where y'all come in Like I said, my abs are good enough ...I guess... but when I'm at my "happy weight", I still feel, ummm... wide/thick around my waist. I figure this is because I do have a lot of muscle around my midsection from years of training w/ heavy weights (back before my body broke, lol), but not specifically working on my core and since planks are known for tightening the core..... you see where I'm going with this. I'm gonna try and find an old pic to give you all an idea of what I mean. Also, so I can compare it to my future results
My plan is to keep a log of how many seconds/minutes I can hold it for. I'm going to do the regular 'ol basic plank for the time being and I'd like to "plank" 3X's a week, doing 3 sets at a time with a little rest in between each set. Idk if this is the best way to go about it so if anyone wants to chime in, please do. Obviously in the beginning I'm going to hurt and hate life, but once I get somewhat use to it, I'll adjust my plan if needed.
And I'll throw the offer out there, if anyone wants to do this with me, I welcome the extra motivation. Just jump on in and post your sets w/ how many seconds/minutes. This is just a personal challenge for me, BUT if anyone does wants to join in all the fun and make this a competition, even better!
...as long as you don't mind being beat by a girl!! HA!
Ok, now I'm off to start Day 1!

Man, I am so freakin sore from yesterday! I'm starting to wonder if this was a good idea or not LOL... Seriously though, I knew it was going to be a rough start so depending on how I feel tomorrow, that will determine whether I attempt Day 2 or take an extra recovery day. I'm just listening to my body at this point, but I will beat my previous time!

Try this. Turn on a 3 min meditation on the youtube. Close your eyes, get in plank position, and brace your abs. As you are planking do controlled breathing, in and out. Making the balloon for in and hollowing out to exhale.
trust me
If you need a visual let me know and I might try to make a video.

I do that every night as my meditation time.

Idk how to post pics on here so I'm going to ask The Dude to post a few of me and my "thick" midsection just to give y'all an idea of what I'm talking about. Plus it can be my "before" pic I guess.
But for you CH3NO2, I'll be sending the GOOD pics directly to your phone! INCOMING...

Just my 3 minute plank. Here is the music I used as my timer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI4ryatVkKw
If you focus and remember to breathe you can do it, although it really hurts.

I need to work my midsection also. I planked on Sunday, but barely managed 40 seconds before collapsing. I'll try to post my times on here as I proceed.

Day 3 (planks)
Set 1 - 1 min, 3 seconds (whoo hoo!)
Set 2 - 45 seconds (blah)
Set 3 - 46 seconds
I really tried to focus on my breathing like suggested so that's probably why I made it past the minute mark... barely, lol! I was dying for the following two sets though. Like Day 2, I just finished weights (trained shoulders) and cardio so I was pretty exhausted to begin with, but I'm moving in the right direction! On a side note, my shoulders are super pumped right now (yes, MC's IGF) The Dude even commented on how very "cock diesel" I'm looking tonight, lol
Oh and Dean D. said he'd do a 5 min. plank if I did one for 3 min. I took him up on the offer so I officially have a goal now!

It has been brought to my attention that my opponent, Dean D. is on performance enhancing drugs. Therefore, he has been disqualified from my ab challenge and by default that makes me the winner!

Thanks Iron! I'm not proud to say that if I didn't have this thread going I probably would've stopped by now. Idk why, but I just hate training abs. I need to change my thinking. Might as well work on that too

Pics are simple. Make a photobucket account. Upload pictures to photobucket account. After it's uploaded you'll be given 4 separate links on the right. Copy the one with the IMG at the beginning of it and paste it directly into the reply section here. That's all it takes.

Awww my little girl!!
Anyway, so since The Dude already has photobucket so as you perv's (lol) can see he posted a few pics showing you all what I mean by me describing my midsection as "wide/thick". I'm not saying I'm fat or anything. I'm quite happy with my physique, just seems like my stomach is a bit distended at times. Of course I'm flexing my abs for the pics, lolLast edited by SilkQuads; 08-19-2016 at 08:49 PM.

I know what you are saying. I've gained 30 pounds since joining this site and I feel that my waist is wider/thicker just like you are saying. But, the pictures look great.

Thanks! It's "worse" when I'm not flexing my stomach like I am in the pics. If I'm standing there relaxed it looks like I have a belly, but it's just my ab muscles popping out. Idk if this is making any sense and hopefully I'm not sounding like a dumb girl, lol... Sounds like you know what I mean Ox. I don't even know if there is a "fix", but I figure there's no downside to working on my core so why not, right? Plus a little friendly competition is fun I had to take a few days off (crazy work hours), but I'm back at it today so stay tuned! I know Dean D. is already at 4 min. so I got a lot of catching up to do, Lol

I have to flex mine hard any time I have my shirt off. I haven't been able to do my planks often enough, so far. Friday I did two sets of 45 and 40 seconds.
