Weight lifters in particular often have problems with constipation. They often eat too much, eat too little, lack variety in their diet, or sometimes avoid any number of foods or even food groups that might otherwise ensure regularity.

Clearly, constipation is uncomfortable and it's not healthy. Constipation even killed Elvis Presley, who died while straining on the toilet. (According to science writer Mary Roach, the autopsy revealed that Presley had an enlarged "megacolon" that was horribly impacted with claylike material from a barium X-ray he'd undergone 4 months prior to his death.)

While Elvis' fate was an anomaly, it's a good idea to fast-track your feces by taking control of your colonic fate. You must, of course, eat adequate amounts of fiber every day. This means partaking of as many of the following types of food as possible:

Whole Grains
Vegetables
Fruits
Nuts
Seeds
Legumes (beans, lentils, peas)
You might also make two to three daily teaspoons of Metamucil as part of your healthy bowels campaign.

Shortcuts to the Bathroom
For truly lazy or time-challenged people who can't easily eat lots of fiber throughout the day, I offer the following shortcuts:

Drink 16-20 ounces of water upon waking. This triggers what's known as the "gastrocolic reflex," which is the signal your body sends to the intestines to man the lifeboats and evacuate.
Eat 3 to 4 prunes as a mid-day, between-meal snack. They have lots of insoluble fiber, but they also contain sorbitol, a sugar alcohol that acts as a laxative. They also contain chlorogenic and neochlorogenic acids, which are the same chemicals that often cause you to go to the bathroom after your morning coffee.
Drink a large cup of coffee in the morning. See above.
Eat two large leaves of Romaine lettuce every day. They contain fiber, but other than that I have no scientific evidence that this technique has any special merits. I learned about it from a competitive bodybuilder in the 90's. He never won any championships, but by God the man could poop.

I wouldn't be able to eat my regular meals if I ate all that! Stuffing yourself is a young man's game. I will try the water thing and I'm trying to eat more vegetables. Most days I only go once now... which sucks. I think the Kratom is responsible. Either way it's a small price to pay for the relief it provides

If you want to poop send an email to 3J and he will give you a diet that will make you shit your brains out.

I am bad about fiber when I cutt so the whey I use has 5 grams of fiber per scoop 4 scoops Ed does the trick and I get 100/ g of protein

I eat plenty of fiber, or at least I think it's plenty. But I also take a magnesium supplement - 500 mg per day - which keeps things moving. Advil binds me up pretty fast, so if I find myself taking that stuff for aches, pains or injuries (I play ice hockey, so I often end up with painful bruises), I double up on magnesium, taking a second dose at night.

On my cardio days, I'm up at 415AM drinking, no guzzling java. That alone makes me run to bathroom short time later...so Sun AM I thought I pooped enough, went out and started running then BAM it hit me, had to literally squeeze my butt cheeks so tight, found a port a potty, and it was beyond nasty so with bowels screaming, I made it home in the nick of time.

The moral of story: If you run outside, do yr duty first! Crapping yr shorts cant be much fun!

I had emergency gallbladder surgery the beginning of this year and now going is not a problem. If I eat anything slightly high in fat, you know where I can be found!!

lmao. it doesn't really get much better when you get older boys and girls. use psyllium husks, but not metamucil. tends to make it more pasty. eat your bean (legumes), loaded with fiber and protein to boot and many of them will release you. dried cherries usually set my grandkids loose pretty quick and it's a mess.

Does no one eat good old fashion oatmeal anymore? One bowl a day in the morning with a scoop of protien and I am as regular as can be!!

I actually eat a lot of oatmeal. 1-1/2 cups (measured dry) every morning 1st thing, and on work days a 2nd cup a few hours later. I still take a magnesium supplement though, in part to help keep regular.

I have nerve damage and pain from a horrible accident I had like 10 years ago (fuckin car vs train) so I kinda have to take an opiate at least once a day more sometimes.. And it makes my bowels not regular at all.. It's becoming a problem and I try to sub with Otc but shits gotten hard, no pun intended
