Default Best movies of the year...so far.

Other than the gym and spending time with the family, my wife and I are big movie goers. We make to the movies at least once a weekend. So having said that, what has been your favorite movies so far this year? or biggest disappointments?

I enjoyed Suicide Squad and their take on the Joker.

Didn't care for Batman vs Superman - best part was Wonder Woman.

X-men Apoc was a huge let down.

Sully was a very good look into how the Government are always looking for a scapegoat.

Deadpool has to be one of my fav's for the year.

I took my 2 youngest watched Stark's and my daughter liked it. Right now my 3 year old and I are watching Scooby-Doo. Don't get out much. Lol! Me and wife saw straight out of Compton last movie we saw at movies. It's either redbox or netflix that's about it.

Certainly one of the biggest disappointments and worst movies of the year was Independence Day 2. Plot was bad and the acting was terrible. One of these times they are going to have to let the aliens win. That would be a shocker. And it would be what would happen if aliens really came here, at least according to Steven Hawkings.

It was a let down for sure. If it took that long to make it, you would think that the writing and acting would have been better.

Went and saw Madea's Boo and Jack Reacher this weekend. Madea's Boo was a awesome movie, I was laughing out loud the entire time. Reacher was good, but not as much action as I though it would have had.

Went and saw Inferno the new Dan Brown movie with Tom Hanks. It left me kind of flat, as there wasn't anything new in the movie. The setting is still in Florence Italy, but not as much trying to solve a mystery to me. Brown needs to move his settings and break new ground. Just because his first two movies were good, doesn't mean he can just stick to the same script.

Went and saw Dr. Strange. I went into this movie not knowing what to expect as I was never a huge fan of the comic. I have to say that it was a excellent movie. I loved the use of humor in this movie and the action made your head spin on few occasions. Well worth your time. My wife liked this movie as well. FYI

Hacksaw Ridge was one of those movies that will grab you. My wife was not interested in going at all but went anyway and she came out saying how good of a movie it was. It was realistic and did show the bloody side of war, it also showed what true courage is all about, both on and off of the battle field. Mel Gibson did an amazing job on this film.

I saw Rogue One a couple of days ago. It was a disappointing movie. There was too much killing. Nearly all of the "stars" were killed. This appears to be a senario of an event prior to the 1st star wars movie that came out in 1977. It is about one of the designers of the "death star" weapon that could destroy a planet, putting a flaw into the power system of the death star. The whole movie seems to revolve around a team trying to "acquire" the plan for this flaw. It is a confusing story with characters from previous star wars movies thrown in. In particular the "Darth Vadar" character. He did not even appear in the series until the "2nd" episode that came out in 2000. So how can he "appear" in a senario 40 or more years before he was created?
The CGI effects were good. It is always amusing to "hear" these fighters making the RRRRRR sound as they pass by in outer space. When actually there is no sound in outer space. It is completely silent.
By the way, if you value your hearing, better bring your earplugs. The noise level is tremendous.

I was confused on the timeline with the Darth Vadar appearance. This was because of George Lucas decision to start the series with the #4 of the series in 1977. Then he made the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of the series 20 years later. So this Rogue One senerio could be called Star Wars 3.5, because it occurs betwen the 3rd and 4th episode. Which would put Darth Vadar in the proper time line.

Unless being bored is what you are looking for, don't waste your time on Assassin's Creed. Just jumps around to much and take way to many liberties with history for me. My 2 cents.

I think you may have your movies mixed up. The original Star Wars that came out in 1977 featured Darth Vader. Rogue One takes place in the days leading up to the 1977 film. Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith happen over a ~~20 year time period with about another 20 years between the ending of Sith and Rogue One. Trust me, as a big Star Wars fan, I would have noticed if things were out of place. The continuity is all there. Also, there is a tiny bit of sound in space but it certainly wouldn't sound "normal" to the human ear. Also, you can't see laser beams, just a reflection off of dust and such. Just roll with it, it's science fiction. If space battles were silent the movie would suck.

I really liked Rogue One. Explained some things, like why the Death Star had such a horrible flaw. It's true, everyone dies but anyone who really pondered how the movie would end would have come to that conclusion already. Still an excellent film. Highly recommended

I grew up with the x-men and haven't enjoyed an x-men movie since the second one. I remember the cartoon from the 90's had apocalypse as this untouchable scary alpha mother who spoke biblically with a bassy, monotone voice, whereas in the movie he seems more like an old wizard or something. Batman vs. Superman felt like it was written and directed by an 8-year-old boy

Deadpool on the other hand was about as perfect a movie as it could be with the best representation of the Colossus character.

Also, I finally got around to watching the new Ghostbusters movie out of curiosity. If you're a fan of the first movie, do yourself a favor and forget this one exists. Of course if you do watch it, you'll forget it exists in about a week, anyway. It's got nothing to do with the fact that it's all girls, either. I remember the director and actors blaming "angry boy-virgins who don't want to let girls into their boys club" for all the negative criticism, but the movie was simply NOT funny or interesting and the characters all seemed like they were trying too hard to be funny.

Marky Mark hasn't really made a bad movie, as far as I can remember. I want to see this one, as well.
