Are we seeing the death of Nascar?

I grew up at a dirt track, watching some of the top name in the sport win races. I remember getting to see drivers like Billy Moyer, Scott Bloomquist, Ned Lucas, Black Jack Boggs, Eddie Carrier, and a host of others run at tracks like Eldora and Brownstown speedway. Up until just a couple of years ago, I could be found any Saturday night at a track. I moved and just now have a track close enough to make a weekly show. It is still IMO the best racing on the planet.

Dirt track on Sat and Nascar on Sunday. But no more, gone are the days of racing, gone are the days of true driving skill. When Earnhardt died a part of the sport died and no one was able to put back the pieces. For years I never missed a race on TV. I had season tickets to Bristol and even planned my vacations that were close to a track or at a track I could swing by and check out on the way. Not anymore, I gave up my tickets when they got so expensive that they were costing me more for a weekend than a week at the beach. Nascar has become a follow the leader, make sure your are PC during your interviews and apologize to anyone that you may bump or you will be fined.

Such a sad state of a sport I use to love.

Yea I think it's been in the crapper for quite a bit myself also. I used to go to Talladega every year but I stopped about 3 years ago. I'm going to the fall race there this year to see Jr run his last Dega race and that will be it for me.

Not as many as their use to be, check out any race and you will see a lot of empty seats.

Dega used to be insane. Thursday-Saturday night naked bitches running all over the place. A solid 4 day party of epic proportions.

With so many guys buying their rides with sponsors, we are going to be stuck with what we have now. Dirt is now the only real racing.

I never understood what was so entertaining about watching cars go round and round lmao, I had a brother-in-law who races funny cars they called them, now they were cool to watch on dirt track, they had little wing on back of car, and man were they loud, his dad raced them as well, and died before they put a 20 foot fence up in the corner where he flew off track. Anyhow thats the only racing I ever found entertaining.

I'm a horsepower guy... if it has an engine and is loud and goes fast, I like it. I've been to plenty of NASCAR races... seeing how I live in Daytona, it's kind of hard not to. LOL I've been to lots of Indy car races, and I loved that. Powerboat races, yup, those are badass, too. Drag racing, I have about 300-400 passes in my current car on the 1/4 and about 100 on the 1/8th... not to mention countless "passes at an undisclosed location" LOL I've even rubbed shoulders with the biggest rednecks and hillbillies at Monster truck shows and Tractor pulls. With all of that being said, Drag racing and Superbike races are amongst my most favorite!
Presser, you should come down and see a race. Whether your a "fan" or not, you'll get wood as the cars go by at 180mph and create a tornado of wind as they pass by, and you feel the horsepower and torque in your chest. You can't help but get excited, especially as the race comes down to the last 20 laps and those cats are doing everything they can to get to the front, and everyone starts wrecking each other. LOL

I don't really care to go to nascar races anymore but will hit up a Friday night short track or Saturday night dirt but we also have Sunday races after church around here. I have yet to go to one but the turn out seems to be good even in the fucking hot ass summer

I was always so hungover at the race that it really wasn't important. Our seats are on the front row at the start finish line and it's really cool when 50 cars go by 20ft from you at 200 plus mph. The fuel smell gets a bit noxious after a bit with the hangover and some puking is involved lol.

Naked Mardi Gras happens Saturday night in the free camping area and lets just say it's worth the trip. Loads of fine ass bitches load up in the back of trucks naked and make rounds. I was so smashed one night I couldn't find my way back to our motorhome so I found the next best place a porta shitter. Sat down and slept it off for a bit then rolled on out once the sun came up. I had hundreds of videos on my phone of me motor boating bitches it was hilarious.

IMO the Car of tomorrow and restrictor plates killed NASCAR. I've not watched a race in almost 20 years.

EDIT: I also think the addition of Toyota was the nail in the coffin for me.

I agree with loving dirt travk racing! I used to pit crew for a dirt car years ago and was at the Soeedway every Friday night. It was a blast! "If you ain't got dirt in your beer, you're not at a real race!" Was an often heard line...

As far as NASCAR goes, the switch from bias ply to radial tires did a lot to kill the excitement for me. Remember when Dale used to slide the #3 car as if he was on dirt? That ended with radial tires. When he was killed I kinda lost interest, too, I gotta admit.

That said, I just ran into a driver totally by accident while on vacation a couple weeks ago. My wife and I were on a bike trip up in Central NY. We went to Watkins Glen state park to hike the trail, check out the waterfall, etc. We rolled into the lot and there's this car just unloaded from a trailer - being pulled by a pickup. The driver and I assume his family - wife, mother and father, though like I said, that's an assumption. We exchanged introductions by first name only. It turned out to be a driver named Ross Chastain. He was at the park for a promotional event with his car (the spare car) prior to the race at Watkins Gken that weekend. Hell of a nice guy and nice crowd. I needed a place to change from jeans to shorts and asked if I could do so in their trailer. No problem. I'm checking out the car and Ross's - again, I'm assuming this, I may have it wrong - mother asks if I want her to take my picture in the car. Hell yes! A very pleasant encounter. I never heard of the guy, but like I said, I haven't followed NASCAR since Dale, Sr was killed and that's been close to 20 years, I'll bet.

I was seriously thinking about getting into dirt racing again on a small scale: a friend of mine races a "sling shot", which is looks like a DIRT modified but is small, similar to a mini sprint. A car lime that can be had ready to race for around $5,000. My work schedule prohibits it, though, as I have to work a lot of weekends.

Anyway, running into this Ross Chastain guy has sort of reignited my interest in NASCAR. Even though the body of the car had Camaro trim either airbrushed or probably stickered nowadays on it, but does not resemble a Camaro one bit...

Oh, and Presser, those sound like Sprint cars you were talking about..... Funny cars are drag racers... And yea, Sprint car racing at a half mile or 5/8 mile dirt track is just about as exciting as it gets!

I always loved the smell of the alcohol exhaust.....
