It has been theorized that theropods, a specific type of dinosaur(raptors are an example) survived the mass extinction 65M years ago and have evolved into present day birds. Beyond the obvious similarities like similar bone structure/hollow bones, foot anatomy and visual appearance(feathers), the fossil records show this transformation including Archeopteryx, the oldest known bird.
Scientists have even taken chicken embryos and turned on/off certain genes that modern-day birds have embedded in their genetic code and grown extended tails, teeth, extended snout and even dinosaur-like lower limbs. This is pretty solid evidence that the genes of theropods are still encoded in modern birds and paleontologist Jack Horner has dubbed the dino-chicken embryos “chickenosaurus.” This is real science and not cloning dinosaurs but expressing certain prehistoric genes during development that would make a chicken to look like a dinosaur. I am a HUGE dinosaur nerd and as a scientist this is truly fascinating. Dr. Horner thinks they can successfully create a “chickenosaurus” within a decade, but don’t expect to ever see a real Jurassic Park
