The "bullshit asymmetry" principle, or Brandolini's law, states that it takes a lot more energy to debunk bad information compared to how easy it is to make a bad claim.

This is because debunking bad information means we need to look up sources and think actively.
.
Classically, we will point out a flaw in someone's reasoning or sources and what happens next is that we are showered with 50 more bad sources. To the layman it looks like this person has "a lot more sources", when in reality it would take us hours to read every bad reference and point out why the reasoning is incorrect.
.
That's why you OWE IT to the opposing party in a discussion to explain WHY your source supports your argument, not just shower them in bad references (known as Gish galloping).
