Lets Get Checked – What Is It?
Ever wish you could get certain blood or urine tests done without having to go to the doctor?

Lets Get Checked makes that a possibility!

The company offers 30+ health tests with its major categories including women’s health, men’s health, sexual health, and nutrient deficiencies.

The following are its most popular tests:

Lets Get Checked for Men
Men no longer have to rely on going to the doctor to receive results for their current hormonal or sexual health status!

Lets Get Checked streamlines this process for men and enables them to access testing ASAP for urgent matters and find out whether or not they may be affected by certain conditions or illnesses.

Men have access to several forms of male hormone testing and can also receive treatment for certain STDs as well.

Let’s take a closer look at which tests are offered for men’s hormonal and sexual health!

Hormone Test for Men
LetsGetChecked offers 4 different male hormone tests that can be used towards determining a man’s fertility status and detecting potential abnormalities.

Men can choose between a comprehensive overview that provides further insight into hormonal imbalances or they can select tests with fewer biomarkers that still provide a general outlook on their overall health and function.

Here are the 4 home male hormone testing options available from Lets Get Checked:

Male Hormone Advanced: Includes testing for the 5 major biomarkers of testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), free androgen index (FAI), oestradiol, and prolactin. This test is available for $179.

Male Hormone Plus: Includes testing for testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), free androgen index (FAI), and oestradiol. This test is priced at $159.

Male Hormone Test: Includes testing for testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), and free androgen index (FAI). It’s available for $139.

Testosterone Test: This is the simplest male hormone test available and it measures total testosterone only for $69.

Not sure which test is best for you? Here’s a quick glimpse into why certain biomarkers are tested for and how their use can help men detect certain abnormalities.

Biomarkers for Male Reproductive Health
Testosterone
Testing for testosterone is the least expensive option available for male hormonal testing that still provides general insight into a man’s sexual function, strength, energy, and overall health.

Testosterone is the major biomarker used clinically to detect hormonal abnormalities or potential risks for certain health diseases or conditions.

Lets Get Checked’s Testosterone Test provides a man’s total testosterone value in units of nmol/L which is different from other at-home tests that provide values in units of ng/dL.

It provides a normal range of 7.6–31.4 nmol/L which converts to 219.2-905.6 ng/dL.

*Multiply your value in nmol/L by 28.84 to roughly calculate your value in ng/dL*

For an additional $70 you can add on testing for sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and free androgen index (FAI).

Why would a man want this testing done in addition to testosterone testing?

Many men may test within the normal range for total testosterone but still feel like absolute garbage!

Why? Well, the standard range used by most clinics for testosterone testing is based on results obtained from men of varying health backgrounds and ages.

This leads to a reference range that may not accurately represent what a man’s testosterone levels should be as men who are older or have certain conditions typically have lower testosterone values that set the normal range much lower than it would be if results only reflected values obtained from healthy, younger men.

Thus, men who want to see a somewhat bigger picture of their health may choose to add on sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and free androgen index (FAI).

SHBG
SHBG binds itself to testosterone and controls how much of it is delivered to the body’s tissues.

Thus, while total testosterone shows how much testosterone is in a man’s body the SHBG test indicated how much of this testosterone is actually being used by the body (not bound to SHBG) which can help confirm androgen deficiency.

A normal range for SHBG is generally considered to be 16–55 nmol/L for men ages 20-49.

This reference range increases to 19.3?76.4 nmol/L for men who are 50+, indicating that less testosterone is available for use by the body.

FAI
Free Androgen Index can also be used towards estimating physiologically active testosterone vs total testosterone and helps to further determine male sex hormone status.

It is obtained by dividing total testosterone by SHBG (in units of nmol/L) and multiplying this value by 100.

A standard range for FAI is 24–104 by Lets Get Checked’s clinical standards, however, the following age-dependent reference ranges are also used by some labs:

  • 30.0–128.0 for ages 0-29
  • 24.0–122.0 for ages 30-39
  • 14.0-126.0 for ages 40-49
  • 18.0-82.0 for ages 50+

Want additional testing to confirm certain health conditions?

Some men go the extra mile and add on testing for oestradiol and prolactin as well!

Oestradiol
Oestradiol (also referred to as estradiol/E2) is one of the 3 main forms of estrogen that plays a role in libido, erectile function, and spermatogenesis in men.

It is found in much smaller concentrations in men than women but men, however, men with extremely low levels of E2 may be susceptible to accelerated bone loss, aromatase inhibitor deficiency, and impairments in major physiologic functions.

The reference interval for estradiol in adult men is 27.9-156.4 pmol/L which converts to 7.6?42.6 pg/mL.

Prolactin
Although prolactin is best known for its role in breast milk production in women, it also dictates testosterone secretion and spermatogenesis.

The reference internal for prolactin in men provided by Lets Get Checked is 86–324 mIU/L.

At Home STD Test for Men
In addition to male hormone testing, Lets Get Checked also offers STD testing as well!

At-home testing for STDs is a much better option for men who prefer privacy and want to maintain full confidentiality throughout testing and treatment.

Lets Get Checked offers the following 3 STD panels:

Complete 8: Includes testing for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, HIV (I, II, P24 antigen), Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma, Trichomoniasis, and Gardnerella. This panel is available for $249.

Standard 5: Includes testing for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, HIV (I, II, P24 antigen), Syphilis, and Trichomoniasis for $149.

Simple 2: Includes testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea for $99.

Haven’t heard of all of the above STDs? That’s ok – we hadn’t either!

Below is a brief overview of each STD along with its cause and potential side effects.

STD Etiologies
Chlamydia
Chlamydia is a bacterial infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. It is incredibly common and typically shows no symptoms in men.

It can lead to clear or cloudy discharge, painful urination, and burning or itching. Severe complications include urethritis and epididymitis.

Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhea. Early detection is crucial for this infection and many people are asymptomatic.

In severe cases, it can lead to long-term complications such as infertility, urethral scarring, and heart or brain damage. More common side effects include discharge or pain during intercourse and urination.

HIV (I, II, P24 antigen)
HIV is an infection caused by a blood-borne virus, Human Immunodeficiency Virus, that’s most commonly transmitted through anal sex or sharing contaminated needles.

It has long-term effects on a man’s immune system and can progress into AIDs. Other common side effects include skin sores, digestive issues, flu-like symptoms, and neuropathy.

Syphilis
Syphilis is caused by Treponema pallidum which is a type of bacteria.

Long-term infections can progress to major side effects including brain damage, abnormal heart function, impaired liver function, and many other critical health conditions.

Mycoplasma
Mycoplasma genitalium is a form of bacteria that can lead to abnormal discharge and pain during sex or urination.

In most cases, men are unaware that they have an infection and sometimes the infection can resolve on its own.

Ureaplasma
Ureaplasma is found in over 2/3rds of sexually active adults.

Most men affected by this bacterial infection are asymptomatic but overgrowth may lead to urethritis.

Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis is considered to be the most common STD that is curable.

Less than 1/3rd of people affected by this parasite are symptomatic which makes regular testing incredibly important.

Common symptoms of trich in men include internal irritation or discomfort, discharge, or burning after urination or intercourse.

My Experience with Lets Get Checked!

Our male team members at Muscle and Brawn weren’t available to complete the at-home male hormone test when writing this review so I got the chance to take the LetsGetChecked Female Hormone Test to show you all what the process was like!

My test was completed in the same exact way that the male hormone test would be taken and the entire process from ordering to testing is completely applicable to each of the male hormone tests.

*If you’re interested in learning more about the female hormone tests offered by Lets Get Checked you can check out my full review here!*

Ordering the Lets Get Checked Hormone Test
Ordering the Female Hormone Test was extremely quick and easy!

I went online to the women’s health section of LetsGetChecked and selected the option for female fertility tests.

I then chose the one-time option for the Female Hormone Test and provided my contact and billing information.

I received my test kit with the following items 3 days after placing my order:

Taking the LetsGetChecked Hormone Test
After receiving my test kit I was required to register and activate it online prior to taking the test.

It is recommended to do this step of the process at least 24 hours in advance!

Taking the Lets Get Checked STD Test
Although I didn’t take this form of testing as a part of our review, I wanted to include the instructions on how to complete the urine test for those who are interested in seeing how this type of testing is done:

[*]Open your Sample Collection Box by squeezing the sides of the box. Once opened, you’ll notice to a plastic lining inside that’s used to collect your urine sample.
[*]Withhold from urination for at least 1 hour prior to collection.
[*]Fill the collection box with urine until you fill it up to the midpoint.
[*]Carefully pour your sample from the collection box into the provided collection tube until you reach the marked lines.
[*]Place the tube within the provided biohazard bag and enclose it within the test kit box provided.
[*]Fill out the Lab Label on the inside lid of the test kit box and close it.
[*]Enclose the test kit box within the return envelope.

Receiving Your LetsGetChecked Test Results
Once you’ve completed testing, you will need to return the envelope containing your test kit to the nearest UPS store ASAP so that your samples can be returned within 24 hours for analysis.

I received my test results within 2 days of returning my test kit and the lab even called me to let me know that my test results were available for review!

You can access your test results through the mobile app or by logging into your dashboard online.

Your online dashboard will provide both an overview of your test results as well as an official lab results document that contains more detailed information about what the references ranges are for your specific test along with potential causes for abnormal results.

Customers who require treatment for STDs will be required to consult with a nurse prior to receiving their medication.

Once proper treatment has been determined, Lets Get Checked will deliver it to your home for free!

*Exclusions apply to certain states.*
