The 2021 World Raw Powerlifting Syndicate (WRPF) The Showdown in Kansas City, MO, was a competition filled to the brim with world record performances. Joe Sullivan smashed his all-time raw squat world record in the 100-kilogram weight class. John Haack posted a superhuman total of 1,000.5 kilograms (2,205.7 pounds) in the 90-kilogram class, which exceeded the world record totals two weight classes above his.

In the Women’s Superheavyweight division (+90KG), Tamara Walcott joined Sullivan and Haack in the record-breaking feats club by scoring a new raw world record deadlift of 288.5 Kilograms (636 Pounds). Check out 37-year-old Walcott’s world record deadlift below, courtesy of her Instagram page. She wore a lifting belt, wrist wraps, and lots of chalk during the lift while employing a mixed grip. She even leveled up the powerlifting fashion game with large hoop earrings:

2021 WRPF The Showdown Results — Tamara Walcott
In addition to her world record deadlift, Walcott went three for three in the bench press and scored a personal record of 164.7 kilograms (363 pounds). Here was her entire performance from the 2021 WRPF The Showdown:

  • Squat — 260 kilograms (573.2 pounds) — Competition Best
  • Bench Press — 164.7 kilograms (363 pounds) — Personal Record
  • Deadlift — 288.5 Kilograms (636 Pounds) — All-Time Raw World Record
  • Total — 713.2 kilograms (1,572.3 pounds)
Walcott’s new raw deadlift world record exceeded the previous record held by Sara Schiff by 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds). Jessica Springer had the record before Schiff with a 285.7-kilogram (629.9-pound) pull.

Walcott attributes her performance to all the accessory work she performed in training to further build her back. According to Open Powerlifting, before this new world record, her competition best deadlift was 272.5 kilograms (600.8 pounds) from the 2021 WRPF Kern US Open in April 2021.

TODAY I DID NOT GO 9 for 9, but what I did do is prove not only to myself but to other beautiful strong people out there is that… you can do anything and everything you put your mind too!!!!

Tamara Walcott’s Powerlifting Career
Walcott got a relatively late start in competitive powerlifting. Per Open Powerlifting, she made her sanctioned meet debut at the 2018 USA Powerlifting (USAPL) Rumble on Pratt Street in July 2018 at age 34. She has spent her entire competitive career in the superheavyweight division, which encompasses a total of six contests at the time of this article’s publication.

Of the six competitions Walcott has appeared in, she has only lost once — a 19th-place rank at the 2019 USAPL Raw Nationals. Her performance at the 2021 WRPF Showdown scored her competition bests for all three lifts and exceeded her previous best total by over 30 kilograms (66.1 pounds). In the caption of her Instagram post where Walcott shared a video of her bench press at 2021 The Showdown, she said, “I KNOW I HAD MORE IN ME.” When she competes next, all eyes should be on how heavy Walcott can go.
