We’re bringing a much better package to 2023.
In addition to teaming up with Watkins, Buendia also met with IFBB Pro Heather Grace to utilize electric stimulation via the “Neubie” device to work on pec imbalances that Buendia’s dealt with since his pec tear in 2017.
Watkins began his career as an MMA fighter but has been in the fitness industry for over two decades. He has coached dozens of IFBB Pros and Olympia athletes, including Steve Cook, Christina Vargas, and Krista Dunn. Buendia has personally known Watkins since the beginning of Buendia’s career — they first met en route to Buendia’s pro debut in New Orleans in 2013.

Buendia left his partnership with coach Hany Rambod, who was recently announced as three-time reigning Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead’s coach for Bumstead’s 2022 Olympia prep. Rambod is the creator of the FST-7 training system and the founder of Evogen Nutrition.
Rambod’s coaching resume includes seven-time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath, four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler, four-time Figure Olympia champion Nicole Wilkins, Women’s Physique Olympia champion Dana Linn Bailey, and trained Buendia to Buendia’s four Men’s Physique Olympia titles. Rambod currently works with Men’s Open competitors Derek Lunsford and Hadi Choopan.

Working with Grace was Buendia’s first time utilizing the Neubie device. They experimented with various settings while performing flyes and incline hammer presses to get a feel for how the machine affected Buendia’s movement patterns. Once Grace has a more thorough understanding of Buendia’s body, they can ramp up the intensity and frequency of the Neubie.
It was humbling. That machine exposed some of my weaknesses.
Buendia expected a bit more intensity from the session but was surprised by the overall workout’s effectiveness. Each movement felt noticeably different while using the Neubie. Buendia recognized that he has a lot more to learn regarding movement efficiency.
Wrap Up
Slowly but surely, Watkins intends to help Buendia chip away at his physique to bring Buendia’s best package to date at the 2023 Olympia. As a former Men’s Physique Olympia winner, Buendia has a lifetime invite to the Men’s Physique Olympia contest, so he will not have to compete in a pro show before the 2023 Olympia if he doesn’t want to.
