Question for insulin users

Those of you that use insulin, have you ever had any problems with it? I am considering using it in small amounts but I'm very afraid of doing something that would result in diabetes. Have any of you that use insulin ever had this problem or heard of it? Please help!

I'm into my 2nd cycle with it now, and other than starting to feel really tired and shaky a couple times, signs of hypoglycemia, I have had no problem. From what I've read (I researched its use for about 6 months before trying it) there is no evidence that it causes diabetes, in fact I would say that you would need to be on a heavy usage long term to cause the body to grow a dependancy. However, if you've done your homework then you are well aware of the most dangerous problem it can cause, meaning coma and/or death, so be cautious if you do it bro!

The fear is that the insulin shots will reudince insulin sensitiivyt and lead to diabetes. However, at least 2 things differ between the typie sufferer of type II diabetes and a BB'er using it:
-Pancreatic insulin output is less in the BB'er injecting insuline
-THe athlete has a great deal of muscle mass and is physically active, which improve insulin sensitivity.

Consider that even using Hum R , twice daily, you will have 16 hrs and at least 2 -3 good meals / day where the pancreas must produce insulin on it own (assuming 4 hr for each of 2 insulin shots). Assume you're bulking, this may mean more insulin output than compared to a dieting condition.

Type II (adult onset) diabetes, is complex, but generally considered to result (in many cases) from a cluster of diseases often called metabolic syndrome, obesity, being the main culprit.

The downward spiral is one of overweight/ overfat leading to insulin resistance, which leads to a greater insulin requiremenbt by the pancrease. This in turn leads to greater fat deposition and the cycle continues untill the pancrease is unable to keep up and the person's insulin resistance is severe enought to be considered diabetes.

BB'ers / atheltes using insulin for muscle growth are so far from this chain of events that is seems unlikely that they would become diabetic (as I note above.)

Sean, if you're really concerned, you can buy a glucometer at the pharmacy and take a resting blood glucose level and even do a fasted glucose tolerance test to see if you're within normal limits. Not the same as in a doc's office, but damn close.

That kind of a comment is uncalled for. You may have been kidding but this cat is looking for solid info as he contemplates slin usage. Either give helpful advice or don't give any at all.

I didn't see the comment but as Skip said yeah I'm looking for info on it and no I don't know much about it but the point of this forum and my questions are to LEARN.

ok...here's the lowdown. i'm diabetic and i use insulin to my advantage. i hit up 30 units of humalog after everyworkout. i wouldn't recomend that to you. but maybe to start out with five units and see how your body reacts to that. keep fast acting carbs on hand just in case you go hypoglycemic. you'll get cold sweats, dizzyness, and won't be able to think properly. anyways...i have a buddy that used insulin and he wasn't diabetic. he started at five and worked up to 30 units post workout over a 4 week period. he noted some occurances of going low, but nothing that he wasn't able to handle. take in mind that he is a 5'11 245 pound monster too. well, hope i helped ya...and get humalog if you're gonna hit slin. it gets in your system the fastest.
